Jane's Seafood & Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in New Iberia

Where should I start?!? I called Jane's Seafood 2 wks prior to confirm that I could have a party of 30 ppl in the private dining area for my bday dinner. The lady that I made reservations with assured me that wouldn't be a problem. On July 27, 2019 someone from the restaurant called to confirm that myself and the party was still attending and I ensured them that we'll be there. Upon arrival at the restaurant we had to wait 17 minutes for the room due to the fact that the party before us was still in the room over their allotted time. We had to wait for an additional 7 minutes for them to leave. While waiting so long I asked the hostess do you know how long they'll be before we can be seated. She kept saying they're leaving now... they're walking out. At that moment she should've went in there and told the ppl they needed to leave so the room could be cleaned because the next party had arrived. When we were finally able to get seated we were greated by an underage waitress that had no personality and wasn't the nicest. I questioned her about the drinks on the menu and she stated she couldn't tell me because she's 18. First and foremost she shouldn't be able to take drink orders because she's not old enough to serve alcohol or get a liquor license. 🤦🏽‍♀️ She took all the orders for everyone. When she came back with the drinks she shoved them across the table. That's very very unprofessional to say the least!! As we're talking amongst ourselves 2 other parties of ppl we're seated in the "private area" that I reserved because there were no more tables available in the main dining room. That shouldn't have happened. By that time I was totally disgusted by all the the things that happened and asked to start ordering the food. She walk in and ask my sis what she wanted to order and before she could say anything the waitress abruptly walked away and didn't come back for at least 5 minutes. She took the orders. She came back and handed salads over ppl heads. The servers need proper etiquette classes on how to serve. You serve from the right not over the heads of ppl. Where do you do that?!? Another guy come with the food for us. It was total chaos cause they were yelling the orders out instead of just asking who had what. The food wasn't great at all. The catfish was more like nuggets than what the menu described. The fried crawfish wasn't seasoned and the fries looked twice fried or over fried. The hush puppies were dry. Overall the food and experience was terrible and I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there with a large party of ppl expecting to have a private dinner. All the money thatwas spent I deserve some type of compensation from the horrible service and unprivate party that was interrupted by unknown ppl that was seated in a party they wasn't...

I used to love this restaurant. I would always get the boiled seafood and it was always good. I moved away and came back with my husband. I talked up Jane's and was beyond disappointed when I brought him last night for the first time. Had a 25 minute wait for 2 people. Of course he thought it would be good since it was packed and there was a wait. The restaurant was so insanely loud we couldn't hear each other talk and just had to sort of stare at each other. We ordered stuffed shrimp and seafood gumbo for appetizers. The stuffed shrimp came with the wrong sauce. The waitress brought our sauce after we ate the shrimp. We couldn't find her. They also brought my husband a "salad". It was iceberg lettuce with one slice of tomato and a cup of dressing. The gumbo didn't come. My husband ordered stuffed crab dinner and I got crawfish ettoufee. His food came 20 minutes before mine. He just stared at his plate not eating to wait for me. The stuffed crab was crab shaped foil tins filled with a tiny amount of filling. It was served with unseasoned boiled potatoes. It was embarrassing. Jane's serves 3 different types of crabs and can't even stuff an actual shell. They used foil shells. My food arrived and had about 4 crawfish in the etoufee. It tasted like canned soup. It came with a hushpuppy, sliced bread, and a fried banana. The hushpuppy was dry and tasteless. The sliced bread was cold and the fried banana was a slimy mess. Not sure why it was on our plates. My husband told the waitress his food was cold so she said she would take care of it. She brought him a small bowl with 3 boiled potatoes that were unseasoned but hot. ??? We don't know why. After we ate she brought my seafood gumbo appetizer. Seriously?? It was too hot to eat when she brought it so I brought it home and by the time we got home it was still too hot to eat. My husband kept saying how it reminded him of cafeteria food and if this is good then Cajuns must not know good food. As a person who is Cajun and went to culinary school I was beyond angry. That is not Cajun food. I'm sure the boiled seafood is good and that is why so many people were there but the actual menu has to be decent as well. We paid $50 for that meal. On yesterday 5/22/24 I arrived at Janes and was seated by the host. I was waiting for another guest to arrive. I was seated in the party room in the corner. The party room was filled with a large party and another table in front of our table. I needed to use the restroom, no one was there to inform that I would return shortly due to me having to go the restroom. I then proceeded to head to the restroom, I returned no more than 5 minutes later to find my table filled with all of the drinks for the large party tables across from my table. No one still came to acknowledge me or even ask me what I wanted to drink. My guest arrived a few minutes later and we sat there for 15 more minutes before she got up and went to the waitress that was tending to the table in front of us, no still came and by this time it was 30mins that had gone by. We were the only Blacks back there and we took it as a racial insult. I then proceeded to go and speak with the manager and he just looked at me as if I was talking in Chinese. We were sent a waitress that works the bar to take our order but I was furious at this point and we left.
