New London Family Diner — Restaurant in New London

Came here for the AYCE fish fry, which is usually quite good. Again, the food was quite good. The bowl of cheesy potato soup was fine, but barely lukewarm. Server went and warmed it up, but didn’t bring it back for awhile, until she brought out the main course. We declined the vegetable side dish (green beans), and I asked if I could substitute something (cottage cheese) for the veggie. She stated I could. The fish, potato, etc were all fine. When we received the bill, I was surprised, and annoyed, to find we had been charged over $3 for the small dish of cottage cheese. I asked the server about it, and she told me that she should have mentioned there would be an extra charge. I agreed, she should have, but she didn’t. Went to pay the bill and when the cashier (manager?) asked how everything was, I told her about the extra charge, and that the server hadn’t said anything about it when she said I could substitute. She actually stood there and debated the issue with me, and didn’t seem to care in the least about the lapse on the server’s part. In the end, she deducted the charge, but we sure didn’t appreciate...

So I decided to give this place a try because it’s close to home, I should have known to turn around and leave when I saw that none of the staff wearing masks. I gave it a chance anyway, took about 10 minutes to get a menu and our waitress didn’t come and ask what we wanted to drink until we already had time to figure out what we wanted to eat.we ordered the new london mix it comes with onion rings, cheese curds and fries, cheese curds were under cooked the fries were season less and the onion rings had no flavor. I ordered the billy burger and fries, the burger was plain no seasoning what so ever, the egg was WAY over cooked the only good thing about the burger was the fried onion and the bun. My partner got the Mexican omelet she said the first two bites were good but the more she ate the less flavor it had. The soda tasted old and flat. Fries had no salt and 70% of them were over cooked our waitress came to the table three time once to get our drinks once to get our order and once to give the check. This place used to be so good, now it's really went down hill. Some.of.the staff are really very rude . They're short staffed , so they're all running around like chickens with their heads cut off . Went to ask about placing a to go order from the girl at the register , she said let me check and disappeared for 5 minutes came back to the register and I asked her again can place a to go order , she yes but I have to take these menus first . Well , that made me mad , I was there first , and then she went and told our waitress , who I couldn't get her attention in the first place . How rude !!!!! If she can take to go orders then why did I have to wait for our waitress to come to our table ? Just rude !!! and unprofessional . Don't go here !!!! I will say our waitress was polite and got our order right , but it really did not taste good . The bacon tastes awful , and the American fries too. Yuck !!!! Couldn't eat either one .
