WCCO wrote a story on how its readers voted the Trophy House - Best Friday Fish Fry. So of course I had to check this place out and see how it compared to the competition. An hour + long wait (unless you have 5 or more people and can make reservations like I did), staff with shirts stating their "fame" and tons of hype.
Image spending the kind of money it takes to buy a Bentley and a Ford Focus shows up on your door instead. That's what it was like eating the fish at the Trophy House. Bland, boring and completely flavorless fish - not the best!
It's definitely not the best Friday Fish Fry in the Twin Cities, in fact, it couldn't even make our top 10 list! It was a complete letdown, but thankfully, the staff was very friendly and the au gratin taters were yummy, so it wasn't all bad.
Trophy may be in their name, but the only thing I would give them is a participation award! If you want to see my top 10 list, look up Food Gnawledge on Facebook or message me here on...
Read moreMy husband and I went to the Friday night fish fry. We each got the all you can eat fish. Well, since this was our first fish fry at Trophy House , we didn't realize how much food you get. Salad or coleslaw, choice of potato (French fries, hash browns, baked or au gratin), garlic toast and fish - 3 pieces to start. Our waitress asked if we wanted more fish and we explained we should have gotten the 3 piece dinner instead of the all you can eat and she changed our order for us to the 3 piece. The fish was really good. Big pieces and I really like the breading. It was light and had a little cornmeal (not positive it is cornmeal, but that's my best guess) in the batter. The fish was moist and delicious, the coleslaw dressing was thick (I hate runny coleslaw), the hash browns were good and the garlic toast was salty and warm. The owner, Linda, stopped by each table and asked how our meals were. Kudos to the Trophy House. We will...
Read moreHeaded out to the one - horse town of New Trier to check out the Trophy House. My parents went out there for a nice Sunday dinner and that is exactly what we got. This is an American food restaurant with burgers, wraps, appetizers such as chicken fingers, and good old homestyle cooking. On the weekends they have lunch and dinner specials. We got there about 12:15 and breakfast was finishing up so had to wait about 10 mins to order lunch. It was well worth the wait. My mom and I had roast beef and my dad had the ham steak meal. There is a soup course which was homemade beef barley, next came salad and bread and finally our meals which were monstrous and oh so good. The price for a three course meal was only about $13, the drive out there is beautiful, and if you leave hungry it's your own fault. I would definitely recommend a good Sunday meal out at the Trophy House. To find it you just look right across from the New...
