Maybe Saturday afternoon is not the time to visit a dinner bar but food/service should at least be acceptable, if not exceptional. Our party of 5 + toddler arrived at noon, there was literally only one other couple there at this time. We ordered 2 burgers and 3 chicken sandwiches in total, a grilled cheese and applesauce for the little one.
So server was friendly and interactive while taking our order however interactions mostly came to an end there. We did not receive refills for our beverages until the meal came, which for some reason took FORTY FIVE MINUTES when we were essentially the only party there.
I can't say whether or not this was the cooks fault or the servers fault as one of our party members did order a medium rare burger but was served a hockey puck. The rolls that the sandwiches were comprised of were hard, the fries appeared to have sat in the oil too long, then sat out too long, then microwaved too long and essentially became inedible at that point. They were out of applesauce apparently as well, which things happen, however this was not stated until the food itself was served and there was no offer of substitutions - on its own this is a nothing but compounded with everything else it is just another nail in the coffin.
The atmosphere was a tad off putting but it is a bar so expect a bar - one with poor ventilation. Even though there were no smokers present you could smell it pretty thick when changing from sitting to standing, the ceiling is low with no air movement so the scent just floats there. I'm not a smoker and will say it doesn't necessarily bother me, but if your sensitive be aware - it is there.
This place is 4 miles from our house and we have talked about checking it out several times, we were out for our sons swim meet being held at the high school about a mile away and in no way did we figure stepping out for lunch at an empty restaurant would result in an hour and a half venture. We missed his last race and needless to say if this place can't manage when the buildings empty I'd hate to try it in the evening when its busier and the prices are twice as high, we won't be back. I'm going to assume the outstanding reviews are from...
Read moreAt the beginning of the summer, I took my entire family for dinner at Conewago Inn. Their reservation platform was cumbersome and way outdated. I finally just called and reserved a party of 7 at 7:00. The âhostessâ was belligerent on our arrival, claiming the reservation was at 6:30! She did however seat our group. She then came to our table and offered a half baked attempt to apologize and then informed me she was actually the owner! She then went into a diatribe about her kitchen crew of young men working in 125 degree heat in the kitchen⊠What followed was the announcement that prices on the menu were all wrong. Everything would be at market price. As my family ordered, she would spout out an exorbinate price. It was clearly obvious to this actor that she was a bad actor. She was creating prices as we went along. For example, fried fish was a 39.95 entree. A steak was priced at $45.00. Embarrassed in front of my family, we proceed to order, eating a meal of mediocre food with a final check of $286! The food tasted musty and most was significantly undercooked. In seeking out the restroom, I passed the kitchen and noted cool air, not 125 degree heat, drafting into the restaurant. The kitchen walls were streaked with mold and surfaces and floor covered in food debris In leaving for the evening, I saw a former student and her husband. eating there. .In texting, they shared they were charged the price on the menu! There was no market price pricing at their table. I have also chatted with others who support the fact we were singled out. The ownerâs total dishonesty and determination to some how punish us for her confusion on the reservation is not only immature and vindictive, it is also illegal. Given the quality of the food, the outright lying, and the clear violations of the health code, do your self a favor and avoid this establishment...
Read moreUpon arriving I said to my wife, this does not look like a place you would need to make reservations. But as the old saying goes, you cannot judge a book by it's cover. At the front door there is a metal ramp up to the door frame (most likely for handicap access.) However, there is about a 2 inch gap between door frame and ramp...could be dangerous for someone wearing heels.
We were instantly greeted upon entering by a smiling waitress. Surprisingly our table was ready, with freshly filled glasses of ice water with lemon.
The menu, while not overly large, offers a fairly nice array of options. There is a special of the day board on each table. Fresh rolls, butter and a chocolate raspberry sauced were brought out. Mmmmm delicious. My wife and I opted for the Pasta Special, which was Tortellini Alfredo. We both added shrimp($8 upcharge) to the $15 dish. What a very pleasant surprise when the large dish came to the table...lots of multicolored tortellini and the type of shrimp you would normally see in a shrimp cocktail. ALL large, tasty and succulent. The Tortellini was Al Dente, as it should have been. Our friends ordered a Cobb Salad which was huge, and the Cavatappi Alfredo with shrimp. None us was disappointed. The Waitress made sure our drinks were refilled. Although stuffed we all decided to order dessert, which was one for each couple to be shared. Good selection of options. My wife and I went with cheesecake and our friends shared a lemon raspberry cake. I cheerfully recommend this restaurant. Just note, if you are coming from Route 30 you may speed by it once in front of it, as both my friends and I did. ...
