Hightower Bar & Grill (formerly Hightower Saloon) — Restaurant in Newfield Township

We happened to go to Hightower Bar after seeing it in Google Maps. Tried to call to confirm they were open but phone didn’t work. Nit restaurant’s fault but the carrier! So if you have this issue, don’t give up! The place is down a dark road (in the winter) and if you’ve never been in the area before it can be a little concerning. But 1.2 miles later you arrive at the end of road right into the parking lot. We went in and sat ourselves, which personally I don’t mind. We were acknowledged almost immediately (to find out, by the owner). Surprisingly they had a decent wine choice considering the atmosphere (think Diners drive ins and dives). Beer choices were decent as well and they will give you a sample if you ask. They have specials nightly and we happen to be on pizza and pitcher night. I wasn’t in the mood for pizza, so my hubby ordered their walleye dinner and I ordered the boiled shrimp dinner. Each cane with your choice of of either French fries or baked potato and green salad or coke slow or cottage cheese. My only criticism is that our entrees came out before our salad. I think this was a miscommunication error. (New owner building his procedures). Food was very good! Shrimp came with garlic butter and cocktail sauce. Walleye came with tartar sauce. Owner was very friendly and very open with his experience since purchasing the bar (and Covid). Totally wants you to root for the guy! There are a few specials we’d like to back for. Owner is trying to schedule events monthly to make if a destination spot. Also looks like it would be fun place to go in the summer! (The have a band stage!!). We will visit here again, however, we weren't impressed today. No one came to our table for several minutes after we came in, even though they had hardly no customers. It's dark in there, you have to take your menu to the pool table lights to read it, or use your cellphone flashlight. You can't use your cellphone for anything else, though, because they have no service there. Our waitress never came back to check on us after bringing our meals. (She was visiting with a friend at the bar from the moment we walked in the door; hope we didn't inconvenience her.) The "chips" that you have to pay extra for to get with a burger were so stale, maybe they were from last week; couldn't eat them, waste of money. Gave three stars because the burgers were...

This was our first time at Hightower tonight. We came for the Wednesday special of a 14" pizza with 3 items & pitcher of beer for $15.00! It was so busy. But we got a table. Our waitress didn't say much, but did the basics. The pizza was thin yummy crust with 3 toppings that were very good. There's also a nice balcony for some seating that overlooks a little lake. We'll be back. 7/3/24: Returned for the pizza deal tonight with group of 6. It's now $18.00 for the Wednesday night pitcher of beer & 3 topping pizza special.
