Long story short. (even tho still long).. Waitress was wonderful. Meal came..unexpectedly SMALL as their portions are usually huge. About 6 fries and a small portion fried shrimp. I really thought some mistake had been made and I received a side dish. Waitress jumped and said Oh you need more fries and she did bring a large side of fries. The medium shrimp plate is on a dessert sized plate. Owner came over and said that's the way its been served for 20 years, and walked away. I had mentioned the dessert plate..so he brought a larger dinner plate.. said nothing..picked up my plate dumped it on dinner plate and said "there. You wanted a bigger plate". I was flabergasted..HOW RUDE... BUT..listen up... What I didnt know was he put an order in for more shrimp...he brought it over dumped it on the larger plate. It was all done in fun..took me a little to catch on and I really didn't until he brought yet ANOTHER order out .LOL and had me take it home with the fries. My family and I got a chuckle, and I felt he went above and beyond, in a Mainah kinda way. The photo is the original plate..you fan see the huge fries brought after. Then once I was done, I easily had been given 3x the amount of shrimp. We are local and I was REALLY DISAPPOINTED, then shocked at the owners initial response...but he got me in the end...I AM A TRUE FAN. THANK YOU. HE did everything right in a comical way. I enjoyed it. There is a HUGE NEED for a decent restaurant in the Newport area and this is a hidden gem. NOT FANCY, but quick, fresh and delicious.

We have eaten here several times over the years. Always had excellent food at reasonable prices. We went for my birthday around 2:00pm. Place was empty possibly 5 tables if that. Waitress was ok but certainly not Rosie who we normally have. They had a ton of additional items that were not included on the menu, unfortunately our waitress never mentioned one of them. We saw it when we paid our bill. Anglers has a lot of dishes but 98% are deep fried. We had the lobster roll sandwich with sweet potato fries, and broiled haddock with scallops. Lobster roll was fantastic, lots of lobster. The haddock and scallops were very disappointing. First off they weren’t even whole scallops but cut up pieces. Small bowl with three and a half scallops cut up with a cracker crumbs on the top.Piece of haddock was a single piece that barely covered the inside of the plate. Actually looked like a kids meal or a $15 senior plate. Both of these dishes were at “Market prices” lobster sandwich was $29.99 and the broiled hodock and scallops were $24.99. Hopefully it was an off day because with a glass of wine totaled at $69. We aren’t ready to write it off completely but it’s pricy and portions are small.

Huge portions of perfectly cooked seafood in a comfy rustic rural setting. Love the fireplace, the wait staff, the perfectly fried haddock. The lobster stew is to die for and be sure to order a Bloody Mary with a spiced rim. The lobster po boy was new on the menu and very tasty. Basically deep fried lobster tail with remoulade. And the haddock sandwich is always a sure thing. We eat at Anglers frequently and are never disappointed. I'm partial to the lobster stew and haddock sandwich. Also the spicy bloody Mary. The desserts are homemade and also amazing. Delicious local food, rustic decor and a roaring fireplace all make Anglers a great place to bring out of town guests for a "real" Maine dining experience. Edited: we dined here for the first time since covid. Outdoor seating at picnic tables has been added. Masks not required, respectfully distancing recommended. The food was really good. Lobster stew, fried shrimp and calamari, pickled beets. We'll be back soon.

My family and I stopped by the other night for dinner and the food was great…Unfortunately I can’t give a good review because we had the absolute worst service/experience we’ve ever had at any restaurant, ever. Our server was Angie and she was incredibly rude and completely unprofessional, we’ve never felt so humiliated in our lives, it was so bad that we left without even finishing our meal…we honestly couldn’t get out of there fast enough. The way she talked to and treated our children was absolutely disgusting and uncalled for. It took my husband everything he had not to freak out on her. We got treated like we were an absolute burden to her and you could tell that she was irritated that she had to wait on us from the moment she walked up to our table. We overheard her talking badly about us to other staff members and also overheard her treating them badly as well, we honestly couldn’t believe it and it made us feel horrible to say the least. Her attitude and service was extremely concerning and appalling and I honestly hope nobody else has to ever experience what we did. What food we did eat was amazing and all the other staff we encountered was wonderful but sadly we will never return as long as she is employed there, and nor will any of our family members or friends after hearing what we went through. It truly is a shame because the few other times we have stopped by everything and everyone was wonderful but after this experience we don’t feel comfortable going back again...

We came to Anglers Newport for lunch. It was a Tuesday at 12:30 so no wait, sat right down. I ordered the whole belly fried clams. They were just okay, I’ve definitely had way better in many spots across the state (saw the seafood truck from Mass Upon arrival so probably not the most local/freshest) but they were tolerable. I usually wouldn’t leave an overall negative review for just food.

It was our waitress who was not up to par at all. Seemed uninterested in engaging with our party, which is fine, I get it. But when she disrespected my wife and basically argued with her, telling her she didn’t order something because she wrote it down on the paper wrong, i got mad. She ordered the fish and chips, which come with fries (naturally) and one additional side. She got a Cesar with that, which came out before the meal just fine. Then she shows up with our meals and hands my wife just one sad looking fried fish fillet. She asks where the fries are, and the waitress told her she didn’t order fries, she got coleslaw (which everyone at the table knew she did not). But because that’s what she had written she told my wife she had. The kicker was that she didn’t even bring the coleslaw though! So after an unnecessary back and forth, she asks my wife if she wants the chips (fries) which of course she says yes. Comes back in 5 minutes and slams down a plate of actual chips and not fries. Was completely rude about it. Terrible enough service we won’t...
