Place was pretty damn good, for being smack dab in the middle of the country.
Let me get my gripes out of the way. I ordered a vodka and soda with extra lime. There's only one person in there that I think can legally pour liquor. It wasn't the greatest, so I ordered a Paloma, well actually quite a few. I kind of felt uneasy when he put grapefruit soda into the mixing tin and shook it. But they were pretty good anyways.
They had ABC News on the TV. But luckily they were playing mariachi music, so I didn't have to sit there and listen to a bunch of fake journalists continue to spread propaganda and make believers out of the mindless sheep, but to me that's an indication of their values.
Inside decorum was nice. Sort of like a Caribbean / Mexican restaurant theme, at least to me. I grew up in San diego, I've been to Tijuana hundreds of times, and actually lived in rosarito so I know Mexican food and everything Mexican.
All the wait staff were super nice. The guy at the front of the house who was also the bartender was super cool. My waitress was nice also. He always kept coming back to check on me which was nice.
I ordered the Cancun fajita taco salad. It wasn't as big as I was expecting, and they served it without any dressing, so I just asked for salsa. I knew that wouldn't get me through the night, so I ordered the caldo de mariscos, or siete mares as I know it.
Now, for being Middle Tennessee and not coastal, it was really damn good. I had a ton of shrimp, a good amount of the other seafood, and I was quite surprised that the crab was cooked perfectly. Not soggy like other places, it was actually crisp and snappy. The head on shrimp were tender enough to eat with the shell on. The broth was pretty good.
I'm stuck down here until tomorrow afternoon, so there's a good chance I may go have breakfast in the morning. If I do, another review is...
Read moreI am a truck driver so let me begin by saying, plenty of parking in the rear and next door at the truckstop.
I had the shrimp cocktail, 2 beef soft tacos, Charo beans, chips, salsa, cheese and guacamole dip.
Everything was great from the quick and consistent service to the very clean men's room.
The food was EXCELLENT. The chips were great, not too thick, perfect for dipping salsa and dips without masking any of the flavors yet strong enough to not break while dipping or using a as a spoon. The soft beef tacos were very good, very tasty and filled with just the right amount of beef and cheese with the lettuce on the side (preventing soggy taco syndrome) while leaving enough room for extras without overfilling or being messy. The Charo beans were perfect, the right mix of soup and whole beans with the right combination of ingredients to stand out. The cheese dip was perfect, the flavor, consistency and thickness was perfect from beginning to the last dip. The guacamole was slightly chunky and the taste was perfect. Easy to dip and didn't fall off the chips while perfectly complimenting the cheese dip on chips and the tacos.
I've saved the best for last. I've had shrimp cocktails (Coctel de Camarones estilo Mexicano) all over America and Northern Mexico and HERE IS THE BEST. The ingredient list and consistency is perfect, the flavor is excellent. The menu price may look high but keep in mind that this is a dish meant for couples to share on a special evening together.
The menu prices I would say are low average and the quality of the food and the service make this an outstanding deal on an excellent meal no matter where you roam in America.
Let me finish by saying the people of Newport Tennessee have a great place to experience some of the best and most unique Mexican food in North America at very...
Read moreThe food was fantastic, prices were surprisingly reasonable compared to the delicious food. The atmosphere was great. I always eat at a restaurant at least 3 times before I review. The serving staff were above mediocre the first two times but unfortunately it's gotten slightly worse each time but today...
I waited tables for 18 years so I tip tremendously. To the server that waited on us today. You would have received a $15 tip today from my party of three BUT I left you $3. To be honest, I would have left $0 but I just can't make myself do that to any server ever. Why? The server was super nice, I'm sure I'd love to hang around her outside of a restaurant. You brought our food out, set it on the table, walked off and we never saw you again until you bussed (NOT pre-bussed) our table and sat down a check. I had to wave the empty salsa container in the air and the host had to get it for me. I never got a refill on drinks, chips, or even an offer of a refill on anything. When our food hit the table I never saw you again so I couldn't tell you what we needed because you never came back to the table. Hands down I'll never walk back in here again because of that. Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to give a lower rating because of how delicious the food was. If I ever change my mind and go back in there and it's better I'll update this review but...
