Joe's Italian Foods & Pizza — Restaurant in Newton

This review is not for the food. It's the way they run the restaurant. We were on our way back home, several hundred miles away. During our visit to this area, we tried twice to visit the restaurant, and they were closed during the hours they were supposed to be open. It was a couple of days after Christmas. The third time, on our way out of town, we were thrilled to see the OPEN sign on the door. We pulled up at 1:45. We headed toward the door, and we saw the CLOSED sign on the door, where it had just been switched from Open. It was swinging quite a bit like someone did it quickly, then moved out of the door view. I knocked on the door, and then I called them. No answer at either attempt. It looks like they saw us coming and changed the sign. We're so disappointed in the way this was done. Great atmosphere, good food. Friendly wait staff. Their side salad could have been better, it only contained iceberg lettuce, tomato, carrot, and cabbage with croutons. Dressing was good. Had the lasagna, it had good flavor, but was surprised that the marinara sauce contained little meat and was not layered throughout the lasagna only on top. Lots of cheese layered in it. Given a table within 5 mins of arriving then sat and 3 different waitresses walked past numerous times waiting on 4 different tables that arrived after us. When 2 of the tables received their food and now a 5th table after us was being waited on and we had yet to have a waitress stop by our table.
