I love Ferris Acres! They serve some of the (possibly THE) best ice cream in Connecticut, and it is all homemade! The milk comes from cows you can pet across the street, and although I’ve never seen them, I trust them when they say they own the chickens who make the eggs. They have a variety of flavors, and you can make a milkshake out of any of them. They also have a long list of sundaes, and many different toppings. They also sell the ice cream in take-home quarts and pints, have special milkshakes and smoothies, and make custom cakes (the ice cream cake is amazing). If you live nearby and haven’t been here yet, you should definitely go. During the summer and spring, they get very busy and you cannot get into lot, and there are long lines, but it is honestly worth the wait. They also have good seating for families, couples, and small groups.

Came here on a Friday night to try. They were busy. There is a lot of parking but it fills up. They had employees directing parking and at times closing the lot. A large variety of ice cream and other items such as fresh eggs, berry sundaes, shakes, and treats for dogs. Since it is on the farm, all of the ingredients are fresh. There are tables and benches that you can sit and relax for a few. The ice cream was delicious. I had Grasshopper and toasted almond. I preferred the grasshopper. Very creamy and fresh. This is not the half gallon of Breyers you get from the supermarket. The prices were much cheaper than I expected. Overall great experience. Since it is on a farm, it smelled like a farm. Be prepared.

My Favorite Ice Creams: -Black Raspberry -Campfire -Bada Bing -Cookie Jar -Mocha Mayhem Pro tip: if you are satisfied with just a pint or quart you can go through the express window and be out of there in less than 20 minutes. Words cannot describe the unbelievable tasty creamery ice cream! The first time I had it, it completely wrecked my GI, but that’s most likely because I hadn’t had real ice cream before. I mean, you can see the cows in the pasture! The line for the cones/sundaes can be a bit intimidating BUT ITS WORTH IT!!! I love this place. Thank you for making such wonderful ice cream.

We had never been to this ice cream spot so we made the hour drive excited to try the seasonal treat we saw advertised on their Facebook page. Unfortunately we went on a Friday night and the seasonal treat was not able to be made. Really not sure why the apple cider float couldn't be made with out the donut that was only available on Saturday and Sunday. But that is what we were told even though we didn't care about having the donut added to the outside top of the cup. Since we were there and couldn't get what we went there to have we decide to try the ice cream since it was our first time visiting this establishment. I ordered a small dish of coconut chocolate chunk and my husband ordered a medium dish of raspberry swirl chunk. The man took our orders we paid our $10.00 and waited at the next window. The coconut chocolate chunk came out and I had to ask where my husband's ice cream was. After being questioned about what was ordered I was told it was being scooped by someone else. A few minutes later his dish of ice cream was in hand. Surprisingly my small had more ice cream in the dish than his medium did. I took both dishes to the order window and pointed out that the coconut was ordered as a small and the raspberry as a medium and that the coconut was fuller than the raspberry. The gentleman that took our order looked at me and replied, " We do not do small, medium and large. We do 1, 2 or 3 scoops. I put both of yours in as 2 scoops." I find it frustrating that when we placed the order he didn't explain to us that they do not do small, medium and large that they do scoops and ask us which we wanted. I find it frustrating that he felt it was his choice how we spent our money ordering us both two scoops instead of explaining they do scoops. I also find it frustrating that it was not common sense that 1 scoop would be a small, 2 scoops would be a medium and 3 scoops would be a large. So our order should have been placed by him as 1 scoop coconut and 2 scoops raspberry since he took the responsibility of deciding we should both have 2 scoops. I understand that two different people scooped our ice cream so I won't even get into the obvious size difference between the two supposed two scoops each we were given. I pretty much order coconut ice cream any place we go that offers it. This was vanilla ice cream with shredded coconut and chunks of chocolate. There really was no taste of coconut and sadly the raspberry swirl that my husband ordered was lacking big with the raspberry. As I said this was our first visit and we found it very...

First off, I want to say that this is the BEST ice cream I've ever had in my 42 years on this planet, hands down. In addition, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. However, I want to explain the missing star and some suggestions to the Ferris family from one entrepreneur to another.

We waited on a very long line, and I decided to look at the menu on your website while waiting. When I got to the front of the line, I learned that the daily specials on your website weren't updated. So, I had to make a decision on the fly with my 7-year-old son and myself. I wound up ordering the wrong thing (Cow trax instead of Salty cow), but it was still delicious. I also pressured my son into making a quick decision, as there were a lot of people behind us, and I didn't want to hold up the line.

I guarantee you that you are losing customers due to the wait. In just this season alone, I've come and gone twice without making a purchase due to the line. So, one big suggestion to you is to put up-to-date menus out on the line so that people can make their decisions quickly when they are at the front. That would really help with crowd control.

Second...I noticed a whole big explanation on your wall about how you bought an automated pint scooper, and you learned that you were actually giving out more ice cream than you realized in the past, and so therefore you lowered the price to match the slightly smaller pints.

While that is incredibly honest, I will tell you that your customers aren't paying close attention. We're just wowed by the amazing ice cream. Why in the world would you lower your price (it's low enough as it is)? You could raise your price, and anyone who actually would notice would understand, especially with the massive inflation going on right now. But most people wouldn't even notice, as it's not like you're selling a high-ticket item.

Finally, you should note that I'm brand new to Newtown, and about 20% of my neighborhood moved to the community in the past year. So, you are getting a whole new crowd. Don't worry about your prices. We'll all pay it. Just focus on your quality, which is already top notch. You really have the best ice cream I've...

Delicious as you would expect. Very good amount of wacky flavors and standards. I was surprised to learn they sell soft serve and that it was quite popular among the people I waited with. The lines are ridiculous and no one can explain what the heck takes so long to scoop ice cream. Some suggested they are hand blending the add-ins for each order, which I suppose is possible. Standard inefficient system of one person taking orders and money and then herding customers down to the next window in no particular arrangement where 3 or so employees prepare each individual cone or sundae and call out the name. So if there are 4 people in your party, your name gets called 4 different times, never knowing whose cone is coming out first, while another employee is working on another person's entire order, calling them to the window multiple times, thus. Your party never leaves the window area until the whole order is complete. And neither does anyone else. And you have to squeeze through the crowd with your dripping cone to pick up (times 4). Orders definitely did not come out in order of placement. Customers didn't know where to stand for pick up or ordering-all unmarked with no employee guidance. The list of flavors is hung low, and guess where? Next to the pick up window, so you can't see it. I always order the same thing because I can never read the menu before it's my turn to order. There are a handful of seats and one umbrella. Almost everyone eats in their car, which really takes away from the farm setting they promote. The staff is friendly and the product is as good as most dairy made ice cream places, but over all-certainly not Best in the State, by CT Magazine, but clearly a case of resting on their laurels, not offering more shade and seating, not accommodating disabled patrons, not improving signage or the logistics of ordering and pick ups and it would appear, letting the business run itself,...
