We've eaten here many times over the years and never had a worse experience. High end menu $$$$ comes with expectations of excellence that was not the case. .
The fish in the fish and chips was not flakes, but flavorless terribly mushy and basically inedible , why? And the cole slaw which accompanied it and was tried by two in our party, just one bite told us both it was off like it had stayed parked in the fridge too long, and was not by any stretch fresh. Our 18$ salad was not much larger than the side, and unfortunately our meal had already started off on a bad foot when, looking forward to nice hot bread instead we got a basket of cold dense slices of sad white bread. Then our baked brie appetizer (advertised to be accompanied by a form of chutney /jam ) came with a giant pile of dried apricots all intact and whole just piled unceremoniously on the plate. When we mentioned to our server we were missing the spreadable component to our appetizer he randomly explained they " were out of currents? " Then he returned from the kitchen at one point to gaslight us by claiming "the cook swears the apricots are sugar glazed" lol. In my 6 decades on earth I'm certain a pile of dried apricot cold and unprocessed in any way are in no way any sort of chutney or spreadable side, it was laughable and so unprofessional. The attitude of our server became progressively more disinterested. We ate very little of the poorly prepared entrees (mushy fish n chips. Undercooked rice. Flavorless veggies) he disengaged.
On the upside The French Fries and asparagus were both impressively on point and quite enjoyable and finally as an after thought (spending down a gift certificate) we ordered the creme brulee and homemade raspberry sorbet: both were delicious and the creme brulee was executed righteously, they were a redeeming part of an otherwise questionable meal. Our server was still tipped out generously -not because he cared that much about our experience - but because we were eating in honor of my recently deceased brother who loved the Ferndale Inn. And was a notoriously big tipper . If the standard of service and food we experienced this time is the new standard, we...
Read moreFamily brought us here while we were visiting as it's one of there top go-tos and I can see why. It's a very cozy place, and reminds me of an old house. Not a huge place so reservation are recommended. The service was fantastic and the food,. delicious. They had homemade zucchini bread and regular rolls to start. For dinner I chose the Penne with shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, and tomatoes in a garlic cream sauce. It had a small or large option and even though I chose the small, I still took some home. It was great but I would have liked more shrimp. Others had the Shrimp scampi, Sirloin, and Lump crab....
Read moreWas just there 9/23. I'm due for an updated review. It was spectacular, as I expected it would be. It just keeps getting better and better. Service, both from the kitchen and the bar was outstanding. I had a filet with peppercorn sauce. It tasted so good on my tongue it was a shame not to savor it the entire evening. Frankly, I'm a little perturbed at the losers who can't give Karen (the owner) a rating of 5 of 5. They must be the jerks from NY who think NY is the cultural center of the universe. Pay no attention to any rating less than a 5. Go with confidence that you will be blown away by...
