Recently I decided to try a new restaurant I’ve seen in my travels but it wasn’t open during those times. However today a friend of mine and I felt the weather was perfect for discovering a new place. As I normally do I read reviews and looked at photos to acquaint myself with the venue, and compare it to my own experiences after dining there. As beautiful as the Delaware River Valley is there are always new places to try and hopefully add to your list of those you’d visit again. Lately I tried two places that I found disappointing by my standards, luckily this wasn’t one of them. In fact I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Nestled into a hillside The Narrows faces the River so it’s a bit scenic. It’s also right on River Rd so the limited outside dining can get noisy. Inside it has a bit of an urban industrial vibe pleasantly mixed with a few cozy country touches. They could use some good music and some greenery would help. The lunch menu isn’t vast, but there are choices for most tastes. I tried the Burger and my friend had the Chicken sandwich.. mine with herbed Fries (I found a bit salty), and his with their own version of potato chips which were nice n crunchy. Both dishes were satisfying and flavorful with ample portions. The food and the service was a bit slow, but it was a Holiday busy weekend do normally I’d guess good . We both felt we would come back and try more of their offerings n perhaps a dinner. As it worked out I returned for the Philly Cheesesteak their version was chopped which I usually see done in strips of meat peppers and onions. It was filling so I took the other half home! I do hope they’ll offer some more sweets in the future to add to the meal and have interesting music to add to the vibe. Prices seemed up this last visit and they gave a tiny helping of ketchup, smaller water glasses so guess dining out is a bit more pricey than a few months back . So fire up the Vette roadster or the Bike and bring your date ,or family, to check it out for yourself. Once you’re full you can walk it all off along the river and canal just across the street .....

Something for everyone, and definitely a place where adults go to dine on cuisine, not just eat food. Sit down, relax, and enjoy a quality meal, in a lovely setting. Very nice ambiance and views of the river. Highly recommended.
Full Review: Shortly after their grand opening in April, I went with my family and enjoyed my first meal there, the Coffee and Coco crusted Ribeye, which was perfect. I also had the Bibb salad, which was delightful (I don't know what the dressing was, but it was good). Others in my party explored other parts of the menu, all reporting it to be great. The Mac and Cheese was wonderful as well. I had a basic ice cream sundae for dessert, it was good. On another visit, I had their soup of the day (a lentil-based creamy soup) and it was wondrous.
We went again recently, this time I went fort the day's soup (a lentil-based, creamy soup that was very good) and a salad, also good. We enjoyed the donuts for desert, these are a house specialty. Also enjoyed an unusual drink from the bar - it's a bottled ale from California that is somewhere between a wine and an ale. Can't remember the name, but ask your server about it - it's the stuff made in old wine barrels.
We also learned that the kitchen is "from scratch" - meaning they they make virtually everything - the sauces, the marinades, the soft cheeses, the ice cream, the baked goods, even the ketchup (!) from very basic ingredients that arrive daily.
Like any new restaurant, they were still working out some bugs in the front of house when we first went, on our second visit, just a few weeks later, they had gotten things in order and the overall flow and quality of service was good.
We will definitely be back again, looking forward to trying more of...
Read moreFound The Narrows on Google Maps while laying out a route for an annual outing, and it turned out to be such a nice experience on every level.
The first thing we noticed was how warm and welcoming the staff is. A handful of young women who greeted and seated us couldn’t have been sweeter or more caring. They all wore genuine smiles and had genuinely nice personalities that shined.
There are two dining rooms and either is a terrific choice. We sat in the main dining room at a corner window table which was just perfect. The room is two-storeys tall and is ringed with second level balcony seating. There’s a wood burning stove with a glass panel that warms the room with heat and ambiance, and a lovely bar.
At first glance the lunch menu might seem like a typical pub menu, but that’s just an illusion. The food that the kitchen delivers is exceptional! We had the Baked Brie appetizer, which is big enough for four. The two of us were dizzy with how good it was. I’m not a fan of Amaretto, but the reduction sauce was amazing, and the house made pastry shell was something special.
I was looking at the fried chicken platter but opted for the Narrows Burger. It was a burger that was cooked to perfection and was a super tasty blend of beef. The Pecorino Herb Fries were absolutely delicious.
My wife had the Grilled Chicken ABLT with the fries and loved it. We didn’t have room for a dessert, but will be back soon to try them. They all sounded amazing.
Our server, Mikayla, kept was a sweetheart, and was there to check on us to make sure we were happy.
The Narrows has the perfect blend of food, drinks, hospitality, and management. The dining rooms are comfortable and welcoming. The bar delivered a perfect Negroni. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The bathrooms are spotless. For all of those reasons and more the Narrows will be at the top of our list whenever we’re in the area. What an...
