Google users, I love eating at mom and pop shops. The service may be a little off but you usually get a great meal. Eating at Butcher Boy Cafe did not deliver. I arrived at 10 am and waited in line, 6 people in front of me, for 40 minutes. The table I received was open when I walked in the door. I chose the breakfast bar thinking it would be quick and quickly turned over due to the number of people in the facility. Sad to say most of the dishes were empty, and the only hot item was the eggs. I was quit surprised when the baked apples and the sausage were really bland. About 11 am they started changingout the bar and I thought I would wait to see if the food improved for lunch. The problem is the wait staff made it clear the bar was not ready yet and they did not provide serving utensils until 11:21. As a result food not in sauces had cooled. When I evaluated the bar at 11: 30. The salad had already started to turn brown, the ham was tuff, the BBQ chicken smelled good and looked ok, the only item I enjoyed was the sweet potato with a candy top. While I was there I had to approach the kitchen multiple times asking for silverware, butter, and drink refills. I thought maybe ordering my food would have been better so I spoke to two other tables and both said service was slow and the meal was not that good. If you are staying at one of the campgrounds near by and had to walk this place would due. Guys, I am sure this place had a hey day but I think it has come and gone.
If they increased their wait staff, regularly managed the bar and had a little more flavor in the food it would be a good place to eat. My suggestion would be to head down the road to Bogangle or Hardee's at the corner of 150 and business 16. (1/2 to 3/4 mile)
Keep in mind I have not posted much during the pandemic realizing restaurants are struggling. I just do not want to comment on one having a bad day. In this case the food, service, and facility really needs help. Maybe after this post management will take a look at things and turn it around before...

The buffet here came highly recommend. So, I give an extra star for the potential I didn't see. In all fairness, we arrived around 3 on a Saturday, but Butcher Boys doesn't list the difference in the lunch and dinner buffet anywhere (if there is one). We took my dad, as he loves a good buffet and southern cooking. It was 13.99 a person plus 2.50 per drink, roughly $20 per person with tip.
The bar was small and could hold maybe 15 dishes, including meats, sides, and deserts, There were at least 3 spots with missing dishes and the 4 meats on the bar weren't enough to feed a large family, let alone a restaurant full of people. Employee's didn't appear concerned as more patrons rolled in and the bar sat nearly empty of meat.
There were about 25 patrons inside by 3:30pm, most being elderly locals. The bar held a handful of fried chicken wings, a full dish of asian wings, some unimpressive steak with gravy, and what was left of some soupy chicken pie and watery beef stew(?) (you had to fish for small pieces of meat). Sides were succatash, pinto's, rice, green beans, and mashed potatoes. Add some cobler, fried apples, and an unremarkable salad bar and you'll have the whole buffet.
What was there was good. But we were there nearly an hour and they never brought anymore meat out. My dad was polite and grateful but was noticeably underwhelmed. Overall, it was a decent tasting poor man's meal for people who enjoy depression erra food and don’t...
Read moreButcher Boy Cafe has been a regular stop anytime I am in the Sherrills Ford / Mooresville NC area.
Here you will find some of the best country cooking you could ask for! From breakfast to dinner Butcher Boy Cafe will not disappoint.
As a rule I personally choose the buffet at lunch. Menu items are excellent as well but the selection on the Buffet is always good. Vegetables are seasoned country farmhouse style. Depending of the day of the week you go you may find spaghetti, chicken wings, baked chicken, pulled BBQ, steak and gravy, BBQ ribs, chicken pot pie, pork chops, fried chicken, or whatever is on Butcher Boy’s mind for the day.
I would be remiss to fail to mention the ‘Butcher Girls’ who are the heart of the cafe. Marcy, Heather, Tammy, Kelly, Tonya, and a host of others will give you a pat on the back, keep you laughing, and your glass of tea full!
Leave room for dessert! You will always find a homemade cobbler with available soft serve ice cream. My favorite is the Banana Pudding which is an occasional homemade special treat.
Try this place. You won’t be...
