This place was amazing!!! We were a little overwhelmed at first. We came to the mountains for my wife's 30th Birthday. She exclaimed that she wanted a nice dinner. We are from the Upstate of SC and don't usually do high class restaurants. We have small children and it just doesn't work well. But this weekend, Gramsey took the babies. Our waitress was Jay. SHE WAS FANTASTIC!!! Very personable, and knowledgeable of the menu. She could tell we weren't use to this caliber of food but she never let us feel as though we were eating out of our league. She gave helpful recommendations and took all the time we needed to explain the "fancy" items on the menu. We ordered the Mushroom Fondue as an appetizer. It came out very fast and was Soooooooo good!!! My wife doesn't eat mushrooms, but she really enjoyed it. While we were eating it, the hostess came by to check on us and was so polite. Our food came out and looked like art on a plate. My wife had the Pork Prime Rib and I had the NC Duck Breast. Forgive me for not knowing everything that came with the plates. I do know there were pickled veggies. Hers did have spinach, parmesan polenta and mine had lentils. Everything was delicious. While we were eating, the Chef, Tim, came to our table. Asked us how the food was and wished my wife a happy Birthday. He was extremely nice. Then we ordered dessert. I had the Blackberry Wine Cake and my wife had Creme Brule. These were the best desserts ever. Then a young man with a fantastic handlebar mustache named David came by, wished my wife a Happy Birthday. In fact, several of the staff did. Then when our bill came, Jay, our waitress informed us that the Chef, Tim, wanted to buy my wife's dessert for her Birthday. It was a wonderful experience. One we never thought we would have had when we first walked in. And the view was so AMAZING!!! A painting only God could make. This place is a 10 out of...
Read moreThis was our second trip the the Gideon Ridge Inn. Previously, we stayed in the Sunrise View Suite with it's awesome views. The Inn sits squarely upon the eastern continental divide and the views are, well, spectacular. This trip, however, we stayed in the Cedar Cottage. It is in a building separate from the Inn proper and and down a ponderous set of stairs. It actually feels more like a fabulous tree house. There is a deck with views through the branches of the piedmont to the east, but you are swathed and embraced by the trees. If privacy is high on your list, I suggest that you give this place a serious look. You had better be willing to get a bit of cardio in to get to breakfast however.
The Inn is well staffed and they are able to handle your every need. I cannot say enough about the service. It is truly first class. The rooms and spaces are very well kept and the staff are wonderfully friendly and full of all the local information that you may need.
The suite itself is well laid out and echos the privacy of the surrounding forrest. There is a lovely sitting area with a gas fireplace as well as a large jetted tub with a dressing area in addition to a comfy king size bed. Everything is laid out in an open plan but divided in a way to keep the areas separate. It is a little hike to get to the butler's pantry, but the room has a wet bar, snacks, and a fridge. The bathroom has double sinks, a shower, and an enclosed w/c.
We spent a total of five nights there and really wanted for nothing. We had one day that was a total wash out with rain all day, but we sat happily by the fire and binged on HULU all day... It was great. The views, the service, the quality are awesome. I haven't even gotten to the food, but I will get to that in a separate review. Gideon Ridge Inn should be your first choice when looking to explore the highlands or western...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I just got back from the most amazing stay at Gideon ridge. We’ve been before for just dinner which was incredible but this time we stayed for 3 nights and we can’t wait to go back. The staff are so friendly, warm and accommodating. They go above and beyond including putting fresh baked cookies and a card wrapped in a cute little gift bag, on your door handle every night. It was such a nice surprise and really showed how much effort they put into the tiny details to help their guests feel welcome.
The views are incredible and the inn itself was decorated beautifully for the holidays. They had a wood burning fire going in the living room all day which was a perfect spot to drink coffee and read.
The rooms were large, cozy and clean with luxurious robes and fluffy towels. (They don’t skimp out on fresh towels). The rooms had the perfect amount of vintage charm with modern luxuries.
Breakfast every morning was incredible. So fresh and filling with delicious coffee. Major shoutout to the chef and cooking staff.
Highly recommend grabbing a cocktail at the bar (which had an amazing bartender/mixologist) and watching the sunset in the sunroom.
We seriously can’t think of anything disappointing to say about our stay and are counting down the days until we’re back. It’s a place where you can feel equally comfortable wearing your pajamas around or dressing up.
We were so sad to leave today but want to thank the Gideon Ridge staff for an exceptional stay in this cozy, private oasis ❤️❤️ we’ve stayed in a lot of places around the world and this is by far one of our best...
