I have been eating at the Homestead for over 23 years. For around 4 years my family never missed a Friday night and sometimes even a Saturday night. I have probably ordered 50 queen cut prime rib steaks. Last night my 10 oz queen cut, at a price of $23, contained at least 4 ounces of fat. I understand that prime rib is a cut that contains fat, that's what gives it great flavor but this cut should have been set aside for a slice with less fat. The fat was in big globs throughout the steak, not just around the edges. I probably had 6 bites of meat. I was almost done before the one side that comes with the meal was even brought to the table.
Since it was for a paying customer I don't think I could have in good conscience put that piece of fat in front of someone. I wouldn't want that to be a representation of my restaurant if I was a restaurant owner.
Knowing the reputation this owner has in our county for being rude and abrupt to customers and employees I wasn't going to say anything. My fiance had a different idea, I guess since he was spending his hard earned money for this meal. He very politely told Molly how he felt about the amount of fat, she said she would tell the owner Randy Cash and let him handle it. A waiter then came to the table to collect the fat and take to Mr. Cash for his inspection. Both Molly and the waiter had faces of disgust looking at all the fat...but that was the piece that was served to me. How nice.
So here we go to pay the bill and Mr. Cash was ready with his mound of fat (now safely packed up in a To Go box). He let us know that prime rib is a fatty cut of steak and that there was even one bite of meat I had overlooked wedged between some globs of fat. No apology, just he was right and we, the paying customers were wrong. Still holding my box of fat and not wanting to argue with him we just nodded and paid the bill. I was willing to overlook his typical haughty attitude when he put the icing on the cake. He wanted the box of fat back, saying he was going to give it to his dog! I said no I would give it to mine since it was our bought and paid for fat. The very nerve of this person. For me it would have been bad enough to happen to a customer that had only dined there once but to happen to someone that has been a patron for as many years as I have was very disappointing. I guess this owner has so much business that he really isn't worried about any customer being satisfied. That's all well and good but this is one customer that is now a former customer and one that will never take up for this restaurant again when I hear it being bad mouthed. My business is not needed. Good luck to you and may you always feel great about...
Read moreMade reservations for 11 people as it was my mother-in-laws 65th birthday and she wanted to try this place as it had good reviews as was about 45 minutes from home. We were seated in one of the many rooms they have as this place is huge. Phillip our waiter took about 20 mins before he even recognized we were there and came over and said he had a few other tables to take care of and would be right back as he wanted to be able to devote his attention to us as we were a large crowd. 20 more minutes past and he showed back up to take our drink orders and by this time we were ready to order the kids food but Phillip asked that we let him get our drinks before ordering food, but we did manage to get him to take an appetizer order or 1 bloomin onion and 1 crab dip. At least another 15-20 minutes went by before we had our drinks and by this time we were ready to all order food but again Phillip asked that we give him about 4 mins to get the other tables to-go boxes and their check and then he could devote his attention on getting our large order. 15 minutes went by and our appetizers came out at which point we needed more drink refills. The bloomin onion was ice cold but the crab dip was amazing. I had to go find Phillip this time to let him know the onion was cold and he replaced it with no issue but never did bring the ranch we asked for to go with it which we asked several times. It was apparent that Phillip was over worked as he had 3 sections that had tables larger than ours. Service was horrible with only getting one refill of drinks and that was only after I asked one of the guys in the orange shirts who were cleaning the tables if we could get more drinks. Seafood buffet not worth it in my opinion, oysters were rubbery and not crispy fried like I expect them to be, fried shrimp and fish and a couple salads with shrimp in them. Not worth $18.99. My wife ordered the steak sandwich med-rare and it came well done, sent it back and was remade correctly. Birthday Mom got the broiled scallops and broiled fish and scallops were overcooked, Kids ordered off of the kids menu and their food took over an hour to come out after being ordered but had no issues. We did say something to Phillip about the food and service and he seem to not really care and instead started trying to entertain us with pouring the kids refills before we left. My wife's food came out as we getting the check. Came in at 6:30 and left at 8:45. Need more staff for all those big tables, better offerings for the bar or drop your prices. Spent $260 on this meal for 11 people and it was not worth it and was still forced to pay the stated gratuity. will not...
Read moreVery rustic farm house that's kinda cute & cozy. Lots of parking!
It's also a labyrinth to find the bathroom or back to your table. The food isn't too bad, but not the quality I would expect. (Best items on the menu: the potato casserole & fried banana peppers! Don't let the Texas toast fool you. Looks can be deceiving- looks great, no flavour. My husband's steak was not bad, but he shouldn't have to add condiments once it leaves the grill. "Loaded potato" is the butter & sour cream packets sitting on the table, and forget toppings beyond butter for the baked sweet potato.) Nearly everything is slathered in mushrooms and the kitchen does not accommodate a request of no mushrooms (even though they were not busy). It felt like the kitchen was sending plates out in shifts, half of our table was half way through their meal before the other half was served, including some kids' plates. My husband was 4 bites from finishing his steak before our son & myself were presented with our plates. Nearly everything is over priced (even before pandemic inflation) and I didnt find it worth the value - I can cook better quality for a better value at home. Most of the staff seems friendly, but with a holier than thou attitude that lacks southern hospitality and our waitress didn't deserve the 18% gratuity (i'm never one to snub on tip, but she did not put in the effort for the 70-85$ in grat from my family. Because of allergies, I inquired of how something was cooked and I brought my own cup of ice & water to prevent my allergen being triggered. She was not particularly friendly to begin with, and became rather salty, snide, & rude after I asked how the potato was cooked, she ignored half of the table - a party of 16, turned a blind eye to discarded appetizer & buffet plates that sat on the table 70% of the time we were seated, & she spilt about about 2T of sweet tea on a plate containing food. But what really irked me was serving hot steak plates across a table by reaching over kids. As a mom & a former waitress, that's a big NO!)
That was the third time I've been to the Homestead, each time with groups of 10-20, and it will be the LAST time I set foot there to eat anything.
FYI: allergen alert: sulfas. The entire county's water is laden with high levels of it that can trigger an allergic reaction. One shouldn't have to explain a medical condition before being...
