While the atmosphere is somewhat dim and spartan, Hoyt’s Country Cooking serves a very good Sunday morning breakfast. Eggs over easy were excellent, grits were buttery and delicious (if slightly runny), sausage was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the nice thick slice of bologna was very tasty. Coffee was above average, and the biscuit was, well, if you’ve seen my other breakfast reviews you already know...not very good. Service was good, and the price was maybe a notch high for the portion size. They also have some lunch items that sound very appealing.
UPDATE: Last time I was here I saw a couple of people get the fried tenderloin and it looked great, so I decided to stop in to try it. Turns out it’s not that great. I ordered mashed potatoes with butter and fried okra for my 2 sides. The okra was great but the potatoes had an unusual taste. My friend got the meatloaf. Instead of ketchup it came covered in BBQ sauce. That is definitely NOT Southern. She said it was too mushy. She got the same 2 sides as I did. She also ordered a Bison Burger to go. She said it was really good. We expected a bun but it was served on Texas toast. Just on the Bison Burger we will...
