J Creek Cafe — Restaurant in North Carolina

Well, I don't have a review of the food because I never received it.. it looked delicious though. When we sat down, we received coffee immediately, but that was it. Me and my friend waited, at the bar right in front of the grill, for 30 minutes for a simple order. However, we were never served, we were ignored, it was as if we did not exist and our order was not important. Literally, we watched them read our order but then skip over preparing it despite having ample amounts of our food on the grill. I don't like to assume things, but my friend was not white and we seriously think that had a part to play. We ended up leaving before they started preparing our food, which again was after 30 minutes - when we said we were leaving, staff immediately responded with "okay I'll take down your order" so they knew what orders were ours. Very unfortunate. Even if it wasn't a race thing, that was terrible service - I have never had that...

Just a heads up J Creek Cafe is actively stealing money from employees. They hire people telling them they will make a certain rate and then pay them less, they argue with folks when they try to have a conversation expressing their concerns that their pay checks were not equaling the amount of hours they worked. They guarantee that the tips you make, you keep, but instead they pool all of the tips in a jar and the manager Joni Lance counts the tips alone not allowing any of the employees who worked for those tips to see her count them, and then decides how much each employee receives at the end of the day. They are practicing horrible business and lying and cheating their employees out of the money they worked for, 2 separate employees in the last month have had this experience and it needs to be brought to light. Very sad and beware...

When I visit small towns, I like to eat where locals eat to get a complete feel of the town. When I walked in, I did not feel welcomed and could tell not many people who look like me come there. Sam waited on me and did the best she could as they were short handed. I did notice that my coffee cup was different from everyone else’s. The food was ok and the cook did the best she could to get orders out. I was sure to leave a good tip as I’m sure they were not expecting me to tip at all. I would not recommend anyone who is melanated to stop here. My recommendation to the staff, treat everyone with kindness who never know who will come...
