My wife and I had an extraordinary experience and wonderfully delicious breakfast this morning. Dawn had business at the Farner's market this morning. So I jumped in and went with her. We recently heard some negative reports from people but our previous experience with the Moose has been good. So while at the market, we wanted to go back in there and check it out. And we did. I think a lot of the negative we heard must be due to how busy they often are. Because it's so popular that there are times you can barely squeeze in (before covid-19) and the staff has to be overworked. I think that's probably not the best time to get the best experience at the Moose. And it was not So busy this morning, So she and I both had the all-you-can-eat country breakfast. They need to rename the hashbrown casserole. It's new name should be Fat Sin. Cuz it's so full of cheese and oozing with delicious flavor, that you know you shouldn't even eat what's on your plate. And yet I heard the words come out of my mouth to please bring me seconds. Dawn doesn't like grits (even if they are stone ground). So they were nice enough to switch her grits with cooked apples. I think they use cinnamon and honey in them and they were fantastic. And yes she got seconds and they were As Good As the First's. I also committed the insane act of ordering a pancake with all this. I gave Dawn half of a half, and I ate half of a half and we took the rest home. With the homemade apple-butter on it that they served, it was delicious. In the service department we were lucky. Some people can be over friendly that you just feel like they've joined you at the table. And then some are so distant, you can't get a refill on coffee. Our server Brandon was the perfect balance of conscientiousness and carefulness. It turned into one of the nicest experiences my wife and I have had eating out, in quite some time! And of course the nicest part was spending time with Dawn. So we had a good experience this morning. I will be looking for times when they're not so busy and be anxious to go back to the Moose, (with my...
Read moreThe food was very tasty; however, all my vegetables were of a juicy kind (cabbage, collards, green beans) meaning they had water in their bowls. Which, had they been put on the plate level would not have been an issue. This time, though, the bowls were tilted so that they leaked most of their juices onto the plate which held my hamburger steak (which in turn, caused my gravy to be extremely runny and my cornbread to be soppy and inedible -not good at all). We didn't complain. Part of our order was wrong, but was apologetically and quickly corrected. No complaining. We ended up asking 3 separate times for napkins before we finally received them. No Bug deal on it's own but, added to everything it was just another strike. Still didn't complain. When I paid for our lunch I asked the cashier to please let the waitress know that we had left her tip on the table as I had just taped the "no tip" option on the payment screen. The cashier turned to the waitress (who happened to be walking up out of my view) and told her "she said she left your tip on the table" to which the waitress replied, (not seeing me still standing there) "Five dollars. I seen it" in a very that's-not-enough tone. As she came closer she realized I had heard her. Bug eyed she said, "I didn't mean it like that" to which I replied, "yes you did". She said that she "had a four top earlier today that had left (her) only one dollar!". I just walked off. BTW- it should be noted that we had NOT left her a $5.00 tip. We had left two $5.00 bills folded together so she had gotten a $10.00 tip on a $50.00 tab. That's a 20% tip. We had chosen to ignore all of the issues we had experienced assuming it just was a really busy day/time and maybe she was having a bad day. We also did not go and remove one of the $5.00 bills, though the thought did cross my mind. Disappointed to say the least. 3 stars given due to the food being very tasty despite the issues we had; otherwise, would...
Read moreI had not been here in a while. I was in the mood for fish today. That is were I went wrong. The special for Friday is fish and shrimp. If you have even eaten here before you know that they serve you a biscuit and apple butter when you first arrive. I do not eat a lot of bread but I thought why not. The biscuit was cold a little damp. No big deal I did not need the biscuit anyway I picked around it. The server (name I can not remember) was very nice and friendly. I ordered my food the plate came the fish was wet, mussy and falling apart. The Cole slaw was cold and good but the mac and cheese (I never order very much at all) was luke warm at best. My server had been made aware of the fish issue and went and got me a different piece. As i was eating the fish and the shrimp I came to the conclusion that the oil they were fried in was not hot enough but I eat it anyway it was just gummy. As I went to pay the cashier was nice but very robotic in asking the same question the same way as the three quest in front of me, "How was everything?" I told her was "just OK". She did not ask me for any reason. So, then I explained to her about the fish , shrimp and mac and cheese, also complemented my server. The cashier simply said she would tell someone and my bill was $11.66 I paid and tipped the server. But that will be the last $11.66 that the Moose Cafe will get of my money. If I had a suggestion it would be to train or instruct the person taking the money and asking "How was everything?" to handle the responses they get with more care and better customer service. If I was offered a manger or reduction in my bill then I would have never written the review and would be coming back as well as sending more people to the Cafe. With as many choices for lunch that there are in the small area I can choose to send my...
