Upon walking into the establishment it seems really casual. There were some people sitting and a few there for pickup orders and or waiting to order.
when I walked in and looked around I began looking at their large menu. Overwhelmed, I also started looking online for photos and descriptions. This all was in the first 2 minutes and not even a few feet away from the register where the cashier didnt greet me. The guy that came after me she made a noticeable "hello, welcomed in" he asked me if I was in line and I let him know that I was but undecided and he could get infront of me. missed greet strike one from me
Then as its now my turn and I know what I want, I come to the cashier and proceeded to order. No issues there. When I began to ask about the churro I wanted to know how many come with when a voice next to me sitting in a chair at the table right there said 3 then cut into 6. I was a bit startled because for one, I wasn't talking to her, and two I didnt know she worked there as shes wearing sports shorts and a sweatshirt.. simply careless. Then I proceeded to ask the cashier if I could get a half serving or if they offer a smaller portion/ kids portion. I can see from my side the lady in shorts shaking her head no and mouthing nooo. Then the cashier said no. No worries. They dont do it they dont do it, you know? But 6 was too much for me. So I paid for my bill, left a tip and found a table to sit down at. Never once during this interaction did the cashier ask me if I was dining in or to go. And because of the vibes there and seeing others sitting at the tables I figured it was a order at the register and your food comes out and you sit and eat and take it to go. Noone guided or facilitated the notion that it wasn't. So I sat. The young man comes out and brings me my food in a container and bag packed to go. Its not biggie to me I was a little surprised but again no problem I figured id eat and if I have left overs I dont have to ask for a box now I could just take it to go. But I realized id still like a regular metal fork to eat instead fo the plastic ones. I go to the register and ask for a metal fork. The lady sitting down in shorts chimmed in again saying " next time let us know you're eating in and you'll get the silverware. Youll just sit down and someone would take care of you" I then said " i didnt know. Its my first time here but its okay". She said "I get it. For next time".
I proceeded to sit down and enjoy my meal. Evennnnnn though it wasn't exactly what I asked for. I asked for a chimichanga with black beans and she gave me refried beans.... what if I was allergic?
While eating what she said kept ringing in my mind. She never said it in a mean tone and I dont think she meant it in a mean way but it didnt sit right with me somehow. I could have been handed a fork and knife and never had to be told that and I would have, if I came back, asked to eat in-house and not to-go. But IF. They really wanted to clarify they should have asked me "is this for here or to go". Or even to make my experience better when they noticed i was eating there opening the box and preparing to eat, to offer silverware or a plate.
I dont think what I needed from service was above and beyond but I would expect basic service. The goal is to always be kind, helpful, serve good hot food. And to make your guest feel welcomed and want to return. I noticed while being there. Them saying goodbye to every guest except one other and myself.
The food was good. Service needs some work. The people that work in there need to dress like they are at an establishment and not at home lounging. And they need to work on treating all guests as if...
Read moreI drive by this place every day when I come home from work and it’s always packed. The wife and I decided to give it a try last week for lunch and we are very glad we did.
I had the Campechana Burger - a burger, chorizo, pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on a hoagie roll with a side of fries. Delicious!
The wifey had a Philly cheese steak sub (I know, right?!) and since she only eats half of everything I got to enjoy the other half and it was really good with a side of fries.
Our little dude ate a hot dog with fries and he smashed it so we’ll say it passed his taste test.
I also started with an appetizer but I can’t remember the name of it, but I’ve included a picture with this review, and these little things were delicious! Spicy and tasty! The creamy avocado sauce was banging.
They have a very nice menu that should appeal to the whole family and there are plenty of sides to choose from. They serve beer, which I didn’t see at first (dang it!) along with soda, bottled water, and tea. Cozy dining room with outdoor seating. The waitstaff are attentive and friendly and the food zips out of the kitchen.
So glad this place is right down the road from our house. I plan to conquer this menu one item at a time while supporting a local business which is always better...
Read moreORIGINAL REVIEW: What is surprising place to find such incredible eats. The food here is fresh and delicious. For our family, it is Taco Tuesday every single week. However, the specials of the day are so on point it's crazy. Seriously though, you'll drive up and not believe that a good meal is in store. It is!!
UPDATE: AWESOME RESTAURANT ALERT: I love finding hidden gems in our community. My recommendation to you is STILL Tex-Mex Back Road Grill here in Gastonia. There menu is incredible and affordable. This restaurant sits just north of Forestview High School on Union Rd. Our family LOVES Taco Tuesdays. My personal favorite there is breakfast time. Seriously. Today, they were SLAMMED. The line was almost out the door as we walked in with 9 of us. Not only did everything come out in an excellent amount of time. The order was 100% correct. It was hot and delicious and... I don't mean to sound all food snobbish but it is pretty cool when French Toast is plated with care. Well done. GO TO...
