Wynn's might be Asheville's best kept secret. The only negative thing I can say about this place is that they're not open 24 hours. This is a classic American diner at its best, serving no-nonsense breakfast and lunch dishes at extremely affordable prices. You're not going to find any pretentiousness here. There's no gourmet anything. This is diner food and it's going to remind you of your childhood. You want tater tots with your cheeseburger? Be prepared for them to be alphabet shaped.
They serve a full breakfast and lunch menu until they close at 3 pm. Breakfast is where they really shine--especially their specials. My favorite is the Hungry special where you can get 2 eggs, 2 pancakes or 2 biscuits and gravy, and 2 sides all for $6. They also have a delicious stuffed french toast with a choice of different fruits, and amazing omelets.
This is where true locals eat. It's where construction workers stop for breakfast before heading in to work. It's where you'll find retired farmers chatting with their buddies every morning. It's where you'll find thick southern accents and be called sweetie by your waitress. This isn't a place you'd point a tourist to. It's not a place that has any interest in being the next gluten free hipster hangout. It's not a place for people who are overly worried about their diet. This is a place of simple, honest food for hardworking folk, and it...
Read moreWas too hungry to take pictures! The food is yummy, wish I'd tried eggs/corned beef hash BUT had to try French Toast & biscuits & gravy. Biscuits were soft & big, gravy had nice chunks of sausage, french toast had a nice dose of cinnamon - ordered it with whipped cream. Heavenly! The portions are crazy huge because with your order you get a side. We (husband & I) ordered french toast with a side of biscuits & gravy. You get an entire split biscuit. Then we also ordered the 2 pancakes with a waffle side. 2 huge plate sized soft, fluffy pancakes with a honeycombed shaped plate sized waffle. And the coffee was quite good for an eatery. Most places it tastes weak or burnt, not here. With an orange juice & before tip was $25ish. If we had known better we could have ordered ONE dish with side, drinks and spent $15. Parking was fine, wasn't busy but we went on a weekday. Lots of regulars there. Waiter was helpful, courteous, patient, kind & friendly. He was really nice & genuine. Thank you, Wynn's Diner, for everything. Hope to...
Read moreDiners we're popular back home and I was glad to see how it's done southern hospitality style. Even though I was recovering from illness from a bug bite, I was starving. I ordered the corned beef hash and one over easy egg with some toast. They made a cute Mickey pancake with some bacon for my 3 year old son which was really nice of them. Back home, we always have to tell them make sure the hash is well done. I didn't have to do that here. It was perfectly crispy and perfect amount of salt. You can tell they do breakfast quite often because it's been mastered for sure. Even though it came back up.... It was totally worth it and it's going to be a staple for us now that we're in the neighborhood. I'm picky about my hash! I'll take pictures next time. I was just feeling too awful to do my usual photo shoot of the food. Everyone was friendly and talkative. Nice relaxing atmosphere. I love going places where no...
