NEW OWNERSHIP/REOPENED Since it's not stated elsewhere and I am thankful for the reopening, I want to first say that the stretch recently reopened after being closed for some time, and in this time the restaurant was gutted and redone, I won't say remodeled because it is gutted from what it once was. The old 1+ y/o reviews have nothing to do with the current operating conditions.
Respectfully, my meal there recently was the most awkward dining experience I've ever had, more awkward than when I ate with my former father-in-law in his prison cafeteria.
Yall sterilized the place by taking out everything, painting the walls white, putting in particularly bright lights, and putting in a few Live Laugh Love niceties on the walls. Lastly for entertainment we had the gossip and conversations of the staff, but the staff is not the problem, the dead silence is, you could hear a pin drop 20 feet away.
PLEASE, bring in some TV's, play some music, put in some dividers, add some color.. it's unfortunate you turned this beloved diner into an empty echo-chamber like an empty morgue. a shell of a once WARM and nostalgic diner that could make a person eating alone feel full of satisfaction and entertainment.
[This is a truck stop], don't forget that many of your customers have spent all day/night driving, may be fatigued, living out of a closet size sleeper for the past week/weeks desiring comfort, entertainment, and a warm/welcoming environment where they can sit for some period without the feeling of being alone and unwelcome.

Read moreFirst time there. Sat down and the server came over. The server, Alexis, didn't smile once the entire service. It seemed as though she didn't want to be there. She was standoffish as well. When I ordered the country fried steak dinner she had no idea what came with the dinners. She started to walk away. I had to call her back and tell her my soup order. She also didn't know a choice of potato came with it. When our food came out we had to wait for her to bring silverware. She asked if we needed anything else and I told her my fries. She said they were on their way. I waited 15 minutes for her to come back to check on us and still hadn't had my entire order. She said she would get it. She came over again and I was still waiting on the fries. Meanwhile she was standing around drinking and eating. She finally brought my fries after I was finished with my meal. I've been in the service industry for 14 years. I would understand if it was busy but the restaurant only had 12 people in at this point. When we were finishing up the person I was with had to remind her about the to go order that she ordered at the beginning of the meal. She said it was on it way. I then heard her go to the kitchen and tell them she forgot to put the order in. When it came time to give us the bill she threw them on the table and walked away. When we gave her our cards and slips to sign she forgot my credit card. I wouldn't have tipped her except she stood at the table and watched what we tipped. It was extremely rude. Read moreThe food was cold and it took 45 minutes to get it. We ordered macaroni and cheese. It was pre-made and it took 45 minutes! The cooks were so incompetent!! OK ,we have them one more chance and once again we waited a while just to get a server and it wasn't even busy! THEN when my husband got his food, IT WAS COLD AGAIN! This was AFTER telling the server what happened last time! I hadn't even gotten my food yet! So needless to say The Stretch sucks! Oh and the bathrooms are filthy and the smell goes ways out to the entry of the restaurant! Not a good place to eat! Stay away! *After giving this review, new owners took over and the restaurant has gotten much better. The food is better, service is better and they are remodeling the bathrooms! So now we will eat there with no problem. 😊 I re-rated this review with 4 stars. **OK, I am re-evaluating this restaurant again. The food and service was great in the beginning after the new owners took over but it's getting back to the old problems of cold, overdone food and slow service.
