Nothing here was fresh. $17 for a frozen burger, frozen bun and frozen fries, with one white piece of iceberg and one paper thin slice of tomato, on a paper plate with packets of yellow mustard. Never mind the bad presentations - you can’t give us a pickle? How about making something in-house for these high prices? Great view - too bad the food is terrible. Different sized portions of fries on each plate. Soggy nachos. There was literally a Sysco truck parked in the parking lot. Nothing fresh, nothing local. It’s all cafeteria quality food. If you’re going to charge $20+ per plate, you need to serve quality food. There are local beef suppliers right here in Swanton. There are plenty of seasonal vegetables available now in the middle of summer. Yet we are served half cold frozen food on a paper plate. Never mind the half hour wait standing outside for no reason when there were a dozen empty tables. Never mind the trivia guy on full blast so loud we had to shout. The review is for the lousy food. We deserve much better than this. Make a hamburger from scratch - it’s not hard. Cut some potatoes and serve fresh fries. Have some pride of quality. In response to the owner saying my reviews are false, they are not. I’m just a person looking for a good meal. You can read for yourself how defensive the owner is to simply dismiss my honest feedback. They’ll never improve because “everyone loves them,” so they think. Several people in the neighborhood have agreed with me that the food is bad. Three people told me “avoid Cafe Zulu.” The owner should listen - they have a beautiful location but they don’t know good food. There’s no way it was a house made burger, whatever the owner says. Sorry for this price, you need to serve fresh food made from scratch in house. The meat suppler is not my “buddy.” I just know there’s local food available and people living and traveling here deserve better food. Instead of defending how “great” they think they are, they should take this honest review seriously and improve the quality of the food and experience. Don’t worry - we won’t be back. Why would we come back to pay for overpriced cafeteria food, in an overly loud environment, with the slowest service, giving us cold food on paper plates? We wouldn’t suffer through that again and after this response we won’t give you...
Read moreWe checked this place out by boat. Really liked they have dock space just for boaters to come up, we were greeted right away by a staff person who helped us dock and chatted with us. The environment here is awesome. Right on the water, nice open space, some outdoor games. I think they could expand their outdoor gaming area to include even more. The retractable roof over the seating area is impressive. We got there around 5 on a Wednesday, lots of staff and as the night went on it for relatively busy. Everyone was friendly. Drink selection is good and we had a couple cocktails in our group. One seemed more well made than the other. The Nipple seemed a little weak, the other was a tequila drink that was good. I had higher expectations for food. We had the nachos which had smaller chips, many broken chips. The toppings were tasty but would have liked to see more. The guacamole was alright and only get a small amount. Our meals were the burger, cubano, and poke bowl. All were good. Fries were good. I got bang bang sauce with the poke bowl and for 3$ would have liked larger amount, a little more "bang" to it would have been nice too. Pricing is decent for most meals, anything with seafood is pricier as expected. The tacos looked good but it's only 2 tacos and I think for the price 3 would be better. Menu is smaller. Overall we had a good experience. Left before live music started but sounds like they have that often. (Was supposed to start at 6 from what we were told and hadn't started by 640 when we left). I would eat here again but also might just consider going for drinks. Seems like a family friendly place and hope to go with our young kids soon. The location is definitely what makes this...
Read moreWe’re from North Hero, and have frequented Shore Acres’ main restaurant for the last 20 years and have guests stay at the hotel regularly. After our most recent experience at Bravo Zulu, we won’t be back until we hear things have gotten better. This is our third bad experience.
Beautiful views. Friendly waitstaff. Comparative to a lot of other places that seem understaffed, it looked like they had a lot of people working. (It was Memorial Day weekend and they were busy.)
Food was slow and bad, but the one highlight was the lobster salad. Some food never arrived. Some drinks were returned for being undrinkable.
I think the two kickers for us were: “I put in the order for your bahn mi but it sold out in the last hour so it’s not available anymore. But if I put in any other food it won’t be ready for at least an hour.” This was after all of the other food had been delivered after 70 minutes. They didn’t say “we’re so sorry your food isn’t available, we’ll make anything else right now.” Just: no food for you. (Thankfully it was an adult and not a hungry kid that ordered that.) But then they charged us for it! We had to proactively ask to have the food they didn’t serve us taken off of the bill.
I asked for a sauce to the flavorless poke bowl 3 times, and it never came. So I walked over to the bar and it took them 5 minutes collectively to figure out how to charge me the $3 for the sauce. No apology for not bringing the first three times it was requested.
We tried to be gracious while there but everyone spent the rest of the night grumbling about different issues (and one had to make dinner when we got home).
We’re really hoping the management and food improve...
