A Chinese restaurant by any other name has the same exact menu.
Lian Wang, like many other restaurants of the same nature, offers the same thing that every other carry-out Chinese restaurant offers. I am in no way saying that that is a bad thing. In fact, I am a lover of these hole-in-the-wall style restaurants. Servings tend to be large and prices more than affordable. Lian Wang is no different.
Situated in a strip mall in that strange area between Creve Coeur and Pekin known as… North Pekin… Lian Wang serves up your typical fast Chinese. With a menu that you’ve seen at a million other Chinese restaurants, you’ll more than likely find what you are looking for without much issue.
Having been here a few times since 2013, I can say that the food and service are great upon repeated visits. The person that took my order was the same each time and she started to get what I wanted down to a ‘T’. While I stand aside and wait for my food to come out, I notice that the cashier has half of the area’s orders memorized. Almost each customer that came in was offered with the remark of “the usual”? Now that is quite the memory.
Like I said, Lian Wang offers nothing new or exciting but that is exactly what you get with these kinds of places. Familiar menu items and familiar tastes at prices that are super affordable. If you like these kinds of places, Lian Wang...
Read moreWe went to Lian Wang based on the reviews we found online. We were a little surprised to walk in an discover it was a run-of-the-mill Chinese Fast Food Restaurant. I suppose we should have known from the fact that it delivered.
The chicken was over-cooked, both for the Sweet and Sour Chicken my husband had (they had no pork today), and for my General Tso's Chicken. For the first time ever, I had General Tso's Chicken that tasted like boneless buffalo wings. The sauce appeared to be a mixture of barbecue sauce, sweet red chili sauce, and soy sauce. I was unimpressed.
The pork-fried rice was nicely done, but the eggrolls were very small. Everything was very fresh, and so hot that both my husband and I burned our tongues on the first bite.
Service was good, although somewhat slow. We can understand why people call their orders in ahead of time. In addition, it was somewhat disturbing to hear phone discussions about delivery problems while we were trying to have a quiet anniversary dinner.
Lian Wang's is not a restaurant I would drive to again. What a...
Read moreI have been getting there food for months now ever since I moved to pekin but today made me re think supporting there business. I understand because of the covid-19 people are ordering more carry-out and people wanting to support local businesses but being rude to there customers is not the way to do this. I called asking about the status of my food delivery because it was not here by the time it was supose to be delivered at. A women on the phone told me to be patient and that it was rude to call. 1ST off I choice to support a local business i enjoy. 2nd is if I want to make sure my order is coming after amost a half our of waiting past the time I got my food I am going to ask about the location of it and make sure I can get my food. I am sincerely disappointed by the way I was treated on just asking if my food is going to...
