Little Richard's was a spiritual experience. Before I could even enter the premisis my mind was numb with nostalgia; nostalgia for the days my father and I would sneak out to our local diner at three in the morning. It was almost enough to stoke the dying coals in my soul, but I eagerly pressed on.
Upon stepping into the establishment, my senses were assaulted in the best way possible. Steaming plates piled high with oversized pancakes and perfectly cooked hash browns whizzed past me, carried by the incredible staff members like the ancient Egyptian god Khepri ushering in the morning sun.
I was astonished at the low wait time, seeing as I visited this slice of heaven at noon on a Sunday. After only a few minutes my party and I were seated on comfortable and classic diner chairs. Menus strewn in clip art were set infront of us. The vast assortment of items available was overwhelming at first, but from the corner of my eye I spotted "French Dip with Au Jus. Served with fries" I went with my instinct and asked for the fries curly instead of straight.
Minutes passed, though it felt like days. My anticipation was building to a peak as the aforementioned assault of delicious smells and cozy decor hadn't let up. Needless to say I was relieved when our speedy well-spoken waitress returned, hot meals in hand. I blacked out after my first bite into the toasted subway sandwich bread and juicy roast beef. The crunch of my face contacting the overflowing basket of perfectly seasoned curly fries was enough to snap me back to consciousness. Washing it all down with ice cold cola, I finished my meal in moments, maybe the best of my life. My joy was only amplified when my bill came, just over 11 dollars.
Jokes aside, Little Richard's Family Diner is a must stop for anyone who finds themselves in the Northpole/Fairbanks area. Their small building doesn't accommodate large parties though; more than 8 would prove difficult to seat I think.
I only wish there was a sixth star...
Read moreAs a Mississippi native adjusting to life here in Alaska, one of the things I’ve missed the most is the comforting taste and feel of a true Southern breakfast especially from places like Waffle House. There’s something about that down-home flavor and warm diner atmosphere that just sticks with you. After being here for about a year and trying to find anything that came close, I finally stumbled across Little Richard’s Diner, and let me just say—it felt like coming home. From the moment I walked in, I felt a familiar warmth, not just from the cozy setting, but from the genuinely kind staff. I ordered a custom version of a Texas bacon chicken melt with hash browns loaded with jalapeños and ham, a breakfast I used to love back home but hadn’t been able to find anywhere up here. The waitress didn’t hesitate for a second and made sure the kitchen crafted it exactly how I liked it. When that plate hit the table, I could already tell I was in for something special. And let me tell you it wasn’t just good. It was better than I ever had back home. Every bite brought me back to those early Southern mornings, and for the first time since moving, I truly felt like myself again. I honestly think they should add this to the regular menu, because from now on, I’ll be here every single day ordering that exact meal. Little Richard’s has earned a loyal regular in me. 10/10. Highly recommend. If you're ever longing for just even a little Southern comfort this...
Read moreThe service is good and staff friendly but the food is very lacking. The Alaskan skillet was actually a scramble with way tio much cheese and not even slightly flavorful or well made. The buffalo and reindeer meat are lacking and dont honor the taste of these animals. It's filled with slimy canned mushrooms and canned olives but what surprises me the most is that this dish has onions but no peppers. We were excited about the big coffees but the mugs were super dirty and we were cleaning the rims of the cups with napkins it was so bad. Crusty covered cup rims. Also it's not fresh coffee it's "Douwe Egberts" concentrate coffee.... Even Folgers would be better. It's the same bad coffee they used to serve in military chow halls. Make fresh coffee guys! This was commercial instant garbage. The food is basically poorly reassembled Costco ingredients. Sadly they also don't clean up the kitchen or grill as they go, so it's pretty dirty around 2PM. They really need to soul search and go back to their roots and find a quality that matches their customer service. The Costco bulk boxed hash browns had burnt grill residue and just aren't cutting it. Honestly it's simple Just make fresh food and keep it clean please. I'm not even sure the eggs they have were fresh yey have them in plastic squirt bottles by the grill and they look suspiciously strange light pale yellowish. Just not good food. Hope this...
