After a gorgeous day of boating and fishing on Pymatuning Lake, our hosts recommended dinner at Russell's Restaurant. What a gem. I just had to comment on our experience. The food was absolutely delicious. It is a nice, bright and roomy place that served some of the best barbecued baby back ribs I have eaten anywhere; very tender and well seasoned. Russell's "Dam Good" BBQ sauces are made in-house from their original recipes and so very, very good. I especially liked the Smokey Honey BBQ sauce. Fortunately, they are so unique and popular that Russell's now bottles and sells them to take home ... and I did. My fellow diners ordered different entrees, sides and desserts and everyone enjoyed their selections. I will definitely be back. *They serve breakfast all day long and it is excellent. The grits are the best I have had since I left the South!

Ate here on vacation this week and Russell's has some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten; And I have eaten BBQ from coast to coast. Great variety on the menu, including kids selections. More than fairly priced. Pulled pork was extremely tender with the perfect mix of soft and crisp pieces. Rib meat came clean off the bone. Steak was smoked and juicy. Fresh cut fries were fried at the perfect temp with a nice outer skin and tender inside. Not super greasy. Baked potato was authentically baked. Salad greens were cold, crisp, and fresh. Russell's sauces were on point. Only restaurant on the trip I didn't need a take out box. If you're in the area, you don't want to miss this one. Bring your friends. They'll thank you later. Floor layout is accommodating for both small and large groups. Can't wait to go back!

The meat sampler platter and side sampler platter were tried. The pulled pork was definitely 4 stars. The wings were good, but lacked smoke- 3 stars. The ribs had a very nice bark and were flavorful- 4 stars. The brisket was a major disappointment… chewey and lacked smoke… 1 star. The beans were incredible- nice flavor and perfect hotness 4.5 stars. The coleslaw was creamy but had a touch of a sour flavor 4 stars. The Mac and Cheese lacked flavor and was runny very disappointing 1 star. Overall experience was 3 stars. Russell’s BBQ does pork and ribs and wings well… but if you are comparing this to top notch BBQ places, it does fall a bit short. Great place to eat in rural Western Pennsylvania though.

Only reason I gave a 3 for service is the only one that waits on you is the person at the register; who by the way has always been very nice and kind. You are given a number and called up when your order is ready. (Update/response: When I gave this a 3 rating it wasn’t because I thought the service was poor. I gave it lower since it wasn’t the standard service one usually receives in a restaurant by being waited on. Like I said earlier the people have always been great. I understand the reason this was done due to Covid. The rating was due to not being “full service.”) The food is great, maybe a little pricey.(Update: Here I was referring specifically to the fish. It tasted great. I only wish the portion was a little larger. Price for rest of food is comparable to other restaurants). The only negative I would give is the fact when you are paying you are asked if you’d like to give a tip. You have to answer in order to proceed with your check out. I’ve always felt this is inappropriate, you feel compelled to tip, since your put on the spot. I always like to tip, but they should just put out a tip jar. Update/response: Glad to hear about the tip jar. But quite honestly, I find it hard to believe that you can’t tweak the program in computer regarding tipping. I read and article about this called “tip shaming;” I’ve heard quite a few people discuss this is in a negative manner). Also, congrats on the placing number 1 and 7 in Tennessee...
