We started the morning out planning to have a family breakfast at a regular haunt in San Rafael. Upon arrival, much to our dismay, the restaraunt was closed for vacation. Rather than shedding tears, we quickly decided to improvise and search for a suitable replacement. I typed "breakfast near me" in Google and was bombarded with slew of chain restaraunts. However, I did notice a little gem that had quite a few reviews with 5 stars...Kitchen! I did my due diligence and read some of the reviews. They were all glowing regarding service, food quality, and an inviting atmosphere. I then looked at their menu along with pictures of their pastry items and dishes. If that wasn't enough vetting, I decided to call. Surely something would jump out at me, steering me away from Kitchen. I could not have been more wrong! The young lady on the phone was a delight. I asked her if they had sit down dining, which she pleasantly indicated that they did. It was at that time, I decided I would recommend Kitchen to my other family members. I told the young lady that we would be coming in...she responded, " we look forward to meeting you"
We arrived at the restaraunt, which is nestled in one of the previous Hamilton Air Force base airplane hangars. The renovation of the hangars into commercial spaces was done very well and retains much of the Hamilton AFB history.
Upon entrance ro the Kitchen we were greeted by very friendly staff, who answered our every question ( and there were many). We decided to have dessert first ( please don't judge) additionally, we ordered an asian salad, breakfast burrito, avocado salmon toast, and a country breakfast. As a family, we generally pass all of the food and desserts around and share the cuisine. Out of the five of us, there wasn't a negative thing to say about anything.
We met the owner, Deb, who displayed all of the superior qualities of a highly successful business owner. Additionally, Deb informed us that she caters, which we have already added to our plans for the near future.
In closing, our misfortune of not being able to eat at our normally frequented cafe turned into a wonderful accident. Not to worry though, Kitchen, has been placed at the top of our go to list of amazing places to have a great cup of Joe and a pastry or a full sitdown breakfast or lunch.
Well done Deb and the rest of your staff. I will proudly tell all of my friends and family about our amazing discovery. We look forward to getting to know you and your staff on a first name basis. ...
Read moreKitchen catered a memorial reception I attended today, and I had to come leave praise! First of all, this was the best tasting hot buffet I've had in a long time, and I'm very particular about food. Delicious soft and crusty bread and a perfectly dressed crisp green Caesar salad to begin, then there was a chicken breast with artichoke hearts that was so moist and delicious I had a difficult time believing it came from a chafing dish and not straight from a skillet. Then there was a stewed/braised beef in a tomato wine gravy that knocked my socks off. If I could get that recipe, I'd make it for my mom once a month at least! Second, the staff were so wonderful and kind! Really above and beyond, maintaining the tables flawlessly without appearing busy. They were patient and playful with the precocious children, keeping them entertained and occupied on top of everything else. Third! The deserts were divine! Chocolaty chocolate chip cookies that tasted home-made, crunchy gooey pecan pie bars and THE BEST lemon bars I've had in twenty years. The lemon curd was perfect! Tart and smooth and full of fresh lemon flavor. Not too sweet, no weird lemon extract (pledge) flavor, just pure fresh velvety lemon curd, heaped generously on top of flaky short bread. Pure heaven! I'll be heading to Hamilton hangars soon to try out their beautiful looking...
Read moreI had lunch with a friend at Kitchen today. It's located in a fun area, the hangars at Hamilton so you can walk the flat sidewalks or out around the restored marsh before or after your meal. The atmosphere is spare, modern, clean and friendly. The staff are all wonderful, polite and helpful. I had a delicious avocado toast on kalamata bread and my friend had tuna salad with crispy thinly sliced radishes, red onion, not at all fishy tasting. They had some delicious looking pastries also. We sat inside and after eating moved to a table and chairs outside to continue talking. The restroom was very clean. We have found a great new place to...
