I passed this place when I visited Hawaii in 2023 and thought that place should be a good place to have Huli Huli Chicken. In 2024, I revisited Oahu with my family and had a chance to stop by this place. The location is very local, and I think it isn't easy to reach without a rental car unless you hop on a group tour bus.
As I arrived, I could see a famous Huli Huli Chicken outside of the building. It was around 10:40 AM at that time and there were already some people who had brunch. We ordered 3 Huli Huli Chicken and 1 Chicken Salad, 2 Draft Beer, and 1 Soda and the total cost was around $80.
The chicken was very hot so my finger was almost burnt but the taste was fantastic. Tender meat with charcoal flavor was a perfect combination. 3 half-sized chicken plates were enough for us (4 adults and 1 child) because there was rice, some salads, and macaroni as well. Nice place to eat wonderful Huli Huli Chicken inside of the building, you don't have to worry about where to sit and eat it. That was a great point for us. The last thing is that please be careful when you make a left turn to get into a parking lot. This place is in a heavy traffic area where so many tourists, and buses are running. So pay attention on the road, not Huli...
Read moreWe just visited, had chicken and shrimp. I don't want to diss the place, but it was just average, nothing amazing. Chicken was too dry for me. Google wants me to rate the "service", but there literally is non service; you have to stand in line and order and pay, then go sit down and come back after awhile to get your food, and carry it all to your table. The atmosphere is "high school cafeteria", just a big room with tables, again nothing fancy. I'm not a fan of eating out of paper to-go containers, but whatever. Like I said, high school vibes.
On issue I had was, there was no AC which is fine, but there were no fans! It was so hot! There are ceiling fans, but no way to turn them on. Anyway, we came, we ate, it was ok, and we left. The biggest problem were the flies! There were flies everywhere, it was hard to eat. Flies and heat and no fans. It gave me a flashback of being in Iraq in the war again.
One other issue; for the prices this place charges, I would expect the restroom to be a little cleaner and not so outdated. The restroom reminds me of a Filipino bus stop. Formica everywhere, peeling. And god forbid you have to even go to the bathroom, the gift-shop ladies will corner you on you way in...
Read moreCame here after spending time at Kualoa Ranch (which I suspect many people do after leaving there). Upon entering the parking lot, you're immediately graced with the delicious aroma of BBQ rotisserie chicken roasting away at the storefront. They have a good system of making sure you always get hot, fresh chicken as the guy is constantly roasting them and turning in a fresh batch to the kitchen.
So obviously I ordered the chicken and got some extra mac salad. The chicken is indeed flavorful, juicy, and comes out super hot. They do provide a small container of huli huli special chicken sauce for dipping or pouring over your rice. Mac salad was also delicious, and rice was just rice. They also had a selection of sodas as well as wine + beer.
Setting was plentiful both indoors and outdoors. Outdoors face the street and have covered umbrellas for shade. A few things, expect that your forks will break. Multiple times. Appreciate the compostability of them, but by God they are brittle. Also there were tons of annoying flies swarming us outside.
Will definitely come back, hopefully next time to try the...
