Tried Edley’s for the first time this afternoon (around 4 pm.) Employee at the register was very friendly and quick to get my order in (half rack ribs, fries, and mac n cheese.)
Beverage area was tidy, but the floor by where I chose to sit was dirty/greasy (feet slipped when I sat down.) Had to jettison a dead fly off the table once I sat down, but otherwise the surrounding area had the appearance of being clean.
Food arrived shortly after I started wondering where it was (in my opinion, that means it took a bit longer than expected to arrive.) Portions seemed appropriately sized.
Was a fan of the fries, the mac n cheese - not so much. The texture was fine, but they didn’t seem fresh and tasted overwhelmingly like pepper and not cheese. Cornbread did not appear or taste fresh, and was disappointed that it had jalapeño pepper chunks in it on the inside (couldn’t really see that from the outside.) I really dislike jalapeño flavor - I’m not faulting Edley’s for that, but I will fault them for never mentioning that when I paid for my food. I ate one bite and threw away the rest.
Ribs were okay - I liked the flavor of the sauce, but my half slab definitely had dry/chewy areas on the outside to go with the softer meat on the inside. Again, I was left thinking my food wasn’t freshly made. I did finish all of the ribs, though.
I honestly would have left it at that and maybe visited again (and tried something other than the cornbread and mac n cheese) but it’s 1:45 am and I woke up sweating and nauseous about 20 min ago with a burning acid stomach, bbq burps, and the urgent need to head downstairs to the bathroom. After 4 Tums and feeling like I was going to vomit for a good long time, I think the worst of it has passed. Hopefully this is the end of it and I can get some sleep.
Summary: staff had a good attitude, prices were similar to other local bbq joints, but I didn’t feel the seating area was acceptably clean. Food didn’t seem fresh, sides were a mixed bag, and I’m hoping I don’t have food poisoning. Probably won’t be able to convince my brain to come back after this, which is a shame as I work literally next door. Hope others have a...
Read moreI ordered take out to be ready at 6:30. Got to the take out counter at 6:30, waited 5 minutes, was asked for my name, waiter went to the kitchen, the waiter came back, asked for my name again, and went back to the kitchen again. 5 minutes later she came back out and said they were putting the final prep into my order and it would be ready shortly... at this point I'm very suspicious that they just didn't have my order even started - it was already 10 minutes late. I waited for 20 more minutes for my food to "be finished" (I almost walked out / gave up on the one sandwich I ordered). So, 30 minutes after my food is supposed to have been ready the waitress comes back with my food, says, "Here's your order thanks," immediately puts her head down and quickly walks away. I understand stuff happens, orders get missed, whatever. I also understand it's not that waiter's fault. What was so aggravating was that there was NO acknowledgement of the fact that my order was supposed to have been ready at 6:30, that I'd been in the little takeout area for 30 minutes just waiting by myself, and that I was lied to (it doesn't take 20mins to finish a sandwich let's be real). Just tell me what's happened with my order. I would have just asked for a refund and left. Best case, I would have taken a seat at the bar and had a drink while I waited. Anything other than pretending it's as it should be when it's clearly not and just rushing off before I can say anything. It was a bizarre experience. I mean, if it does take 20 mins to finish a sandwich then my bad, but that just means I give it 2 stars for a different reason.
The brisket itself was good, the barbeque sauce was fine but pretty generic tasting. Asked for extra pickles on my sandwich and only found 2. Nothing worth that much hassle and frustration, especially with Sugarfire...
Read moreI have been to Edley's at least 5 times in the last two months. My initial visits were late evening visits. Well today I went in and ordered about 4:30pm. I wanted a variety, so I ordered the hot links, the ribs and the wings (which the wings have been delicious on all previous visits). To my disappointment, Today the wings were more rubbery (was very difficult to pull away from the bone). I asked if they would cook them a bit longer. My request was met. The wings were returned to me and the outer skin was very well done (black), but the inside was still rubbery. I spoke to the manager who was very unconcerned (which surprised me). I explained that in the last month I have frequented Edley's and the wings were cooked where the meat would easily pull from the bone. I asked if they were preparing them differently, he answered, "No". I told him I wanted to let them know if they are preparing them differently, perhaps they should cook them as they have in the past. His response was yeah ok and walked away. I turned and trashed the wings and decided that I may have to figure out who is cooking before I order them again. I thought this would be my spot for consistent wing preparation. As of today, I am wrong. And because the manager was not concerned at all, its no longer on my list for dining. Try items, you may get lucky and have exceptionally prepared food. I have before.
Very disappointing experience SS
FYI I ordered take out but while I was waiting for my wings, I nibbled on the ribs. I did not take pictures because I didn't realize I could leave pictures. I just...
