Baja Bar & Grill — Restaurant in O'Hara Township

Don't expect this place to be fancy, because it definitely isn't. It's a nice spot for a fun dinner by the water, with music playing, people drinking, and lots of dancing. The access to the pool is also great. You can get an alcoholic beverage and take it out to the pool from what I've seen.

Tonight, I ordered the philly cheese steak with a side of coleslaw and some cheese sticks. The Philly cheese steak was pretty good. Meat was a bit too dry and a little tough, but the flavor was fine. They use an adequate amount of peppers and mushrooms (I ordered it without onion). It did take quite some time to be made and was brought out at the same time as the appetizer.

The portion size was pretty decent, but for $14, they could have definitely done better. It was just okay. I did enjoy their coleslaw. It has a sweet flavor and comes with the perfect amount of dressing so it's not too try. Apparently it's made with vinegar, but I couldn't really taste that. You can choose to get fries as a side too.

Their mozzarella cheese sticks were bland and just not great. They taste very similar to standard grocery store bought mozzarella sticks. And for almost $10 an appetizer (and with a somewhat small portion) it's definitely not worth it. I'm guess most if not all of their appetizers are subpar and overpriced.

The atmosphere is interesting. They often have bands playing, but today, there was a DJ. If that's something you enjoy, maybe check this place out, but it does get somewhat loud and crowded at the bar. Most of the patrons are seniors, so you will almost surely see some older couples rocking out on the dance floor (it's quite the scene).

In general, you'll get some nice views and quick access to the pool when dining here. However, it can be loud and uncomfortable, and it's definitely not upscale. From what I know, you don't need to be a member of the Yacht Club to dine here. Good amount of seating both indoors and outdoors. The food is standard...

Great restaurant I would happily go back to. General thoughts first, and details below

The food was very good but not exceptional, the service was absolutely exceptional, and the atmosphere was very nice with a view of the river out the huge glass windows by the bar + dining area.

Regarding the food, the sauces in particular were amazing (marinara was 10/10), the starters and extras we got were delicious. Fried zucchini and stuffed peppers were both a hit with everybody who tried them. The entrees didn't blow us away, but every member of our party considered their meal to be beyond satisfactory and agreed they would be happy to come back, and that's pretty rare. Some portion sizes were on the smaller side, but it would be criminal not to split starters here anyway. I had the Reubin and would rate it 8.5/10. The sides were generally above average but I'd say the cole slaw was the worst thing anyone got - it was just ok. I can't comment on the alcohol selection but they have coke products.

Server was fantastic, I wish I remembered his name but he was a distinctive bearded gentleman with tattoos. He was working the bar for a large party as well as serving us, took the time to discuss what menu items he enjoyed and offered off-menu adjustments that he felt improved the dish. He was very polite, everybody loved him and I personally found his style of service to be ideal.

Atmosphere-wise, the dining area seemed nice and as I mentioned it has a beautiful view of water out the windows. No obnoxious music was playing. But when we arrived most of the lights were off and the majority of the dining area seemed unavailable to use - it wasn't a problem for us and seemed like a fluke. I celebrated my 40th Birthday Party with alot of my friends and family and the band Dancing Queen! I figured born in 73 I wanted a disco theme. I had appetizers before the band played for my 65+guests. We were stationed in a new party room with great access to both the dance floor as well as the bathrooms! The room itself was absolutely beautiful! The food was perfect with many compliments along the way. And, of course the band...there is no other for disco! I planned this party for two months and have to give the coordinator of events Kelly a thumbs up for answering all of my questions ahead of time by both phone and email. The staff serving the food as well as serving the drinks took care of my whole party!. I have nothing but good to say about the food, service, music and atmosphere.
