I always figured my first review would be a terrible experience. One so bad, I would take time out of my busy schedule to sit and complain. I WAS WRONG! My girlfriend and I had such an awesome experience, I have to take this moment to rave.
My girlfriend is new to the Sugarfire experience. Sensing this, we were quickly met by an employee- later identified as the “GM.” This gentleman took the time to ask questions, explain options and make suggestions- even upselling me on the Big Muddy. After a moment, my girlfriend was ready to make a decision (record timing). While choosing sides, the taller young man behind the counter upsold her on fried pickles. I didn’t even know she ate those!
The food was tremendous, as always. The GM popped by the table to clean up and ask how our food was. My girlfriend, a local business owner, engaged him briefly in business conversation. In that short time, we learned of several new locations coming to the area. We also learned from this GM how lucky he was to work for two fantastic owners from the Wentzville area. Imagine that, a guy who not only loves what he does, but who he works for?
In short, it was Memorial Day weekend. The first major barbecuing holiday of the year. Out of the many (many) barbecues we attended over the weekend, the best one by far was Sugarfire. Great staff, even better food. Hats off to a GM that generates excitement around his business. And thank you to employees who take their product seriously, taking the time to upsell those of us on the fence. The upsell almost always leads to a better experience- I’ve never had better...

What an impressive setting, with the restaurant, indoor seating, sand volleyball courts, outdoor seating, patio and balcony seating and outdoor bar. Without a doubt, I’ll bet this is the place to hang out on the weekends or whenever they have competitions going on. Little sporting action mixed with some great BBQ and cold beverages - Life Can Be Good There!
We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon while driving thru on the interstate returning to Alabama from KC, somewhat easy access - little back tracking but not too hard to get to. We wanted to have one last spurge on some BBQ before going home.
Will say, the service was fair - employees seemed a bit distracted and in to their own world. Asked a couple of questions and got the shoulder shrug - but that’s ok cuz the food was good and the drinks cool. We ordered the Chef Salad with brisket, turkey and hard boiled egg, tomato, cucumber - which was spot on and tasty. Fresh ingredients and the salad dressing was exceptional. On the other hand, the Brisket Sandwich with dipping sauce with House Fries and Baked Beans was a bit tough. Lots of flavor, but the meat was a bit on the chewy side. Drowned the brisket in the hot and spicy BBQ sauce rather than the Au Jus sauce and it turned out much better - so all ended well and I cleaned the plate.
Overall, we’d recommend Sugarfire Smoke House. We’ve visited the other STL location and always had a great experience. My assumption is the folks were getting ready for a busy Saturday evening and in the...
Read moreThe food is fantastic, best smoke house around...when your order is right. The last two times I've ordered carry out and ordered a meat daddy. Both times my potato salad was omitted from my carry out bag. I let it slide the first time. The second time I called and let Arielle know about it. Oh Arielle, I think you tried, but still fell flat. You even knew who was calling when I said my creamy, chunky, and delicious potato salad was missing. You knew it was missing, have my phone number on my ticket, but didn't have the courtesy to call. Cool, Sugarfire, go ahead and pocket those extra three bucks. She said sorry about that(more like a sorry, not sorry) and explained their process for bagging to-go orders, going on to explain cold items are underlined on the ticket so it's not forgotten (IT STILL WAS!!). Then, I was asked if I would like the opportunity to talk to a manager. I declined. I don't need an explanation of how your broken to-go bagging system works. I don't need to talk to a manager. I want you to make it right on the spot and improve your carry out process. Come on, I have to escalate an incredibly easy service issue to solve to a manager? I'm going to find it hard to fork over more of my money for your delicious ribs if you are going to nickle and dime me like that....
