Mo's challenges the deep seeded conception of where fantastic food is made. Check your expectations at the door (which is all the way in the back) and you will be handsomely rewarded. In the span of a week, my family and picked up lunch three times - unheard of with so many good options on the island.
Does the building, connected with the food bank and Portuguese American Club, harken back to the late 1970's early 1980's? Why yes, yes it does. The décor harkens back to a sleep-over camp vibe with bug-juice and horrible cafeteria food is plopped down on plastic trays with an ice-cream scoop. But put all of that aside and trust in the results - delicious food.
Typically when someone states, 'you can't go wrong' with anything on the menu, I'll raise an eyebrow in suspicion. However, what I will say about Mo's menu is that you will find something that speaks to your preferences. The sandwiches have enough variety and flavor to satisfy the pickiest of eaters, while the salads are executed to perfection. While I personally enjoyed the Banh Mi, I doubled down on the Italian choosing it on back-to-back days - I'm going to have dreams about that sub.
And I would be remise if I didn't cover the confections. On recommendation from the baker (who's name escapes me - sorry) I picked up a key lime tart. That [insert expletive] was [insert expletive] insane. In a house of 6 adults and 4 children we ordered 8 pieces of the key lime pies and tarts over the next several days. Devoured doesn't capture how good those desserts were.
My only wish, and I mean this wholeheartedly, is that Mo's would ship its confections across the country. Ok, I'll start with a smaller ask. Could you ship your key lime pies to NJ? Please? I'm going through withdraw at the moment just...
Read moreThis place has earned its near 5 star rating. The food is absolutely phenomenal. The regular menu is amazing, but if there is a special that sounds even remotely good to you, it will be better than you ever imagined. It doesn't matter what the type of food is - Italian, Mediterranean, Asian and whatever else catches their interest, it's all absolutely delicious. One of the few places that has no quality dip in summer and I know I won't be disappointed.
Portion sizes are massive - I always get 2, sometimes 3 meals out of an order. I the cookies amazing too and tremendous! The homemade soups are always delicious too and the quart price is a absolute steal for how much stuff they pack into it.
Employees are super nice and chill, and work like a smooth oiled machine behind the counter. The vibe is friendly and welcoming. Did I mention the food is out of this world? Make sure you get some homemade ranch or garlic aoili to dip your fries or onion rings in - and bring a small...
Read moreI don’t often write reviews, but Mo’s Lunch is deserving of one!! I heard amazing words about the food, and I am embarrassed that I didn’t try it sooner. The wait was worth it!
The flavors in everything we tried, was so on point & then some. They crush vegetarian food.
The polenta frys were crispy on the outside & creamy on the inside.
The onion rings were straight fair food. Beer battered & crispy!
The cauliflower melt was heaven. I am going to have to restrain myself from ordering it everyday.
The veggie & tofu banh mi was outstanding. I love tofu, but I didn’t know it could taste that good. Next time I’ll leave the jalapeños off (I wimped out).
The best part… the nectarine blueberry basil pie. I am ruined for any other pie. Who knew basil in a pie would be so mind blowing!
Thank you for the amazing lunch Mo’s! This is my new...
