Marabou Restaurant and Lounge — Restaurant in Oak Ridge

I gave the spot a 2 because I can’t lie the food is good, the place is clean and it look nice inside. I just moved up here from Miami and had been looking for a spot close to how Miami Haitian restaurants taste. I have been to this spot like 4/5 times so far and it’s crazy I keep going back smh thinking that they will eventually get better with service. Keep in mind it’s a 30min drive going and then going back to my house. The first time the service was HORRIBLE…I had to go up to the counter to get my own drinks, sauces and more even though it was a waitress. Also waited forever for my food even though it less than 6 customers inside. So I never set inside again so I been ordering to go lately and still over the phone or in person THEY DO NOT LISTEN!!!! I ask for griot fried soft and I get over cooked and dried out meat even after spending $32 for a plate! I ask for no plantains because they break me out but yet my plate ALWAYS have them on it! It’s just crazy! I understand why it’s never packed in there even though the food is amazing…it’s cause of the service!!! The first time I asked to speak to the owner because I wanted to just express some stuff to them that they probably don’t know. The owner needs to do better overall!!!! I'll start by saying the place was nice and set up beautifully inside. But once we got in, we waited like 7 mns before we were told to sit anywhere. There were no hostess. Just one young lady manning the front check out desk. After mins of just sitting there, she brought water and took our orders. It literally took OVER AN HOUR before the food came out. She never came back to check on us. As soon as we considered leaving, the food came out. From what I could see, they had a stocked bar, but no cocktails or anyone to make it the drinks. The music was obnoxiously loud to the point we couldn't even talk. The young lady, although she was polite, never came back after the food was brought. I had to go find her to ask for a to go box and the check. I'm sure she's doing her best but she needs help up front. She's doing to go orders, and dining in guests. There were more to go orders than dining-in guests and they were all standing at the front desk, making it hard for her to tend to the other guests, in a timely manner. My wife and I are from NJ and I told her how good Haitian food is. We’re in Fl so I told her we are in the right state to get it. Unfortunately we came here. The food isn’t bad but the service is horrible. Nobody even sat us down or told us how to order. Some guy wearing street clothes, he may or may not have worked there, told us to order in front. The lady behind the counter was having a long conversation with some guy, ignoring the other customers in line. We just sat ourselves down. Our waitress took forever. Only three tables of diners in the whole restaurant too. We order apps. Our waitress didn’t even offer us water and didn’t even ask if we wanted anything to drink. We ate our apps with no water or drink. I got up, went to the front and paid for our apps and went to another restaurant. Before I did that I had a conversation with another guy on the line about how awful the service is. That and the music is way too loud. Also, there’s a bunch of people just hanging out by the door inside, not at a table, with beer in hand, and I couldn’t even tell you if they worked there or not.
