A NOT-SO-HIDDEN GEM IN THE SECRET CITY Wife and I had a truly exceptional dining experience at this eatery in Oak Ridge. Not yet two years in business, the secret is out. Arrived to find a casual atmosphere and no one seating customers so we seated ourselves at a high table. Within two minutes we were greeted, given menus and drink order taken. There is seating for c. seventy to eighty patrons including the bar. Walls are decorated with interesting, valuable memorabilia. Within arm length was a Larry Bird autographed jersey and a variety of collector cards - impressive! Richard Nixon made the display as well.
We chose the Smokehouse Nachos as our appetizer and gave instructions to give us twenty to thirty minutes with it prior to serving our entree choices. We were not prepared for what followed two minutes later. The waiter arrived with a deep, twelve inch bowl complete with an inverted bucket at its middle. Both ends of the bucket were open allowing it to be lifted, dispensing the contents to overflowing level of the bowl (cf. photo). Something of everything seemed to be the recipe for the delight. Seriously, the quantity for this "Appetizer" is sufficent for a party of six to eight persons.
Susan chose the Half Chicken platter with Texas Toast, some "fixins" and a side of Spicy Cole Slaw (cf. photo). Not knowing what I was doing, I selected the Full Rack Ribs featuring smoked loin back ribs, Texas Toast, the "fixins," and sides of Pit Beans and Mac and Cheese. You must see the photo. The ribs were literally fall-clean-off-the-bone while remaining thoroughly moist and juicy (the photo does not do justice to this culinary delight). Quantity of the ribs would satisfy the appetite of three persons. Do not take my word for it - indulge yourself!
The facility is slightly off the beaten path in what appears to be a zoned Industrial area. The exterior has a definitive "industrial" appearance but do not be fooled. The quality, quantity, and prices for the fare served are more than worth the trip. We will return time and again to try...

The sign says Woody's but it looks like an industrial business right behind the new Weigels on the edge of Oak Ridge. Walking in, the service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant was not crowded but it was not empty either. Looked like steady turn over with lunch groups coming and going. The menu is nearly all smoked, they do not have a fryer which was surprising but also a nice change since everything in this area is fried. The three items we ordered were: pulled pork with baked potato, Cuban with baked potato, and the sloppy tater. I also asked for a sample of each of the BBQ sauces since those were different. Warning that the nuclear meltdown is definitely nuclear. The flavors from left to right around the top are: Woodys, hot sauce, blackberry, Korean, nuclear meltdown, Alabama White, kolijah? (Mustard based). Everyone enjoyed their food but all of the potatoes could have been cooked a little more throughout. The sloppy tater is supposed to have chili on it but I'm not sure what is considered chili unless it's just the beans. Also it was requested to have the chicken instead...
Read moreWe love coming to woody's bbq for a relaxed dinner out! The menu has a wide range of options. I recommend the daily deviled eggs. They are HUGE and it rotates the type they are. Pictured are the pulled pork and slaw eggs. The portions of the food for dinner are huge for the money! I always bring some food home with me. They have a great beer and wine list too!
Pictured are the Cuban sandwich (as listed on menu) with a loaded baked potato and the bbq bowl (with no collards and double slaw). Everything is well seasoned. My favorite meat there is the pulled pork. The food is getting 4 stars because their sauce is not my favorite. It is very vinegar based and I am more of a sweet bbq sauce person. But that is my only complaint about the food.
The atmosphere is very laid back. They have lots of TV's. They always have some kind of spots on, which I really enjoy for some entertainment. They have a patio with picnic tables and umbrellas outside too.
Service can sometimes be a little slow, but I actually enjoy that, it gives me more time to chat with friends and sip on my drink. Staff are consistently friendly, helpful, and happy to answer questions. This is a place...
