UPDATE: Was reading the reviews and its horrible that the owners copy and paste the same reply on the reviews that they choose to reply to. There is no interaction with customers anymore since new ownership and prices have been raised sky high!! They actually tell someone that leaves a negative review that there negative opinion is among the very few, which is so not true as there are many since the new ownership and that's one of the problems as they refuse to acknowledge the negative reviews from those of us who used to be regulars!
Halfway has been driven halfway into the ground, the new owners have completely alienated the people like myself who use to be regulars and happy to be. The previous owners, sisters, would TALK WITH their customers, this new tall heavyset guy walks around giving orders but never interacts with customers and when I have seen him do so it comes across as fake. There's a saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Halfway was great 'as it was'. No need to add a salad bar, the prices have risen so high that 1 person eating breakfast w/ beverage and a 20% reasonable tip needs to have nearly $15! The baby blue trim on the outside looks stupid and then they got more stupid and painted the walls inside the same ugly color, it doesn't match the decor! (obviously, my opinion) Many people have posted unhappiness about the new ownership and the new owner will reply to these postings asking them to "come talk to him in person"...GET A CLUE GUY, READ WHAT PEOPLE ARE POSTING AND ACCEPT THIS IS AS CLOSE TO A FACE TO FACE AS YOU ARE GOING TO GET!!! NEW UGLY COLOR PAINT, MARKETING FLAGS AND PICTURES OF THE SALAD BAR SHOULD NOT BE YOUR PRIORITIES, INTERACTING WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE... I now drive much farther for a better meal for less money and I'm greated by friendly ownership who are genuinely happy to see me. Halfway needs to be put out of its misery and reverted back to the old way; there's the name in its next incarnation; "Old Way, We Do Things...
Read moreI had the pleasure of visiting here twice in two days, and this place had me mostly impressed!
The service on the first day was shoddy- brought me the wrong toast, the wrong eggs, and took 43 minutes to bring me onion rings. The service on the second day was spectacular; among the best I’ve ever received, and it more than makes up for yesterday!
The food was distinctly above average with some real gems! I really liked the Heavenly Hash with real cheddar. The breakfast potatoes here are AMAZING! The bacon was just right, and that’s just great because I’m very picky. The pancakes carried a strong vanilla flavor, so if you like that- perfect. The Maple Syrup was boring; they should really invest in some high quality Amish Maple Syrup. The normal stuff is not good enough for these great pancakes! The omelette we tried was pretty good too. Nice and neat with a lot of variety in the menu from which to choose. We also tried the Corn Beef Hash which was better than most! The french fries are BAD. Sorry. But their chili really brought them to life! About the onion rings- I appreciate the light batter tempura style because other restaurants over-batter them, but the taste was good. Sadly, the onion rings are structurally floppy and made them gross to handle. Despite their light batter, they were still very greasy to the stomach, unfortunately.
As for value, everything is just barely too expensive to make me happy. The entrees need to drop by about a buck, and the fact that their low quality diner coffee is $2 is DUMB.
In summary, I plan to come back because the service on day 2 was exemplary and the food was distinctly...
Read moreThe ugly exterior and random additions on the building gives and up north back road diner feel to it. I like trying those place because you can sometimes find a gem where they make good homemade food. This place ain't it. I tried their ham and eggs with american fires. If a place can't a simple breakfast right, I don't want to try anything more complicated. one of the yolks on my OE eggs was broke and flooded the plate and parts of the whites were uncooked. The cook should never put that in the window and the waitress should not have accepted it. It looked like she knew what she was delivering and hoping I'd accept it. I did, but huge demerits for that. The potatoes had a weird texture and aroma and taste; something just off with them- didn't eat them. The menu called the ham Cherry smoked and maybe that's what the package said, but it was a very bland slice of round cross section deli type ham. Had the meal been a good value I might give it a pass, but the prices are every bit as high as places that invest much more into the business and building. Disappointed because I hoped I'd find a diamond in the rough, but not too much so because you can see exactly what you are walking into when you go there. What you see, is what you get in...
