Both the Google reviews and guest book at the condo we rented left high remarks for Mountain State Brewing. With that said, we were looking forward to a great dinner, only to walk away with thinking we should have gone to Burger King and that would have been better tasting for a fraction of the bill we paid.
First, the pretzels appetizer isn't anything special, it's literally freezer box SuperPretzel. The mac n cheese was Kraft box mac n cheese. There was no denying that, you could distinctly taste the truth. We joked that the restaurant must get their food in bulk from Costco/Sam's Club. Which if that's the case, that's fine, just do better and don't charge $4 for 1 cup portion of mac n cheese!
The spinach and artichoke dip was clearly a freezer boxed kind too. The only thing going for this dish, was the chips. 4/10.
Both of our dinner dishes were lukewarm, and obvious that the plates had been ready and sitting in the service area for quite some time before our server, Bradley, brought it out to us. We ordered a Yard Sale pizza, which was just overloaded with olive oil and too many artichokes, so it was very messy to handle and didn't even taste right, especially not the "imported" prosciutto. The basil was a thai basil, which if you know, is the variety that has a licorice taste vs sweet basil which would have been better. And a Apple Butter Pulled Chicken sandwich. The "apple butter BBQ" didn't have an apple butter texture. Instead it was like watered down apple juice mixed with BBQ sauce and some cinnamon sprinkled on top for flavor. The "pickled" apples were just three measly sliced apples and were definitely not pickled, unless soaking in apple juice counts as pickling??
Our service was horrible, sure it was busy for a late Saturday night but there were plenty of staff on hand and many standing around. For a party of 2, we spent 2 hours there...YES, TWO hours. We arrived at 7pm and left shortly after 9pm. We aren't sure if our server, Bradley S., is new, but he seemed overwhelmed and trying to do too much at once, which only added fuel to the fire of poor service quality. He was kind to interact with but just overall struggled to provide a decent customer service.
All in all, we are very disappointed with the outcomes of this experience, the food, the service, and the bill...oof. We won't be...
Read moreWe stopped by for late lunch, approx 1:30pm, parking was easy & we were seated immediately, but that is where the good experience stopped. It took a little while for the server to arrive at our table & then another little while for our drinks to arrive, so we did have a good amount of time to look over the menu. But as soon as we started ordering our food we were told the the cheese bread & the flatbreads that we wanted to order would take at least an hour due to it being a holiday weekend & they only have one oven & it's small. The big problem is that flatbread is their "specialty" & over 1/2 of the menu is flatbreads! So we had to order anything that didn't get cooked in the oven. I ordered their Wild Boar sandwich but once it arrived it was the other pulled pork sandwich & the pork was dry as a desert & I wasn't gonna wait forever for another sandwich, other than that the rest of the food wasn't bad. I also though she just wrote down the wrong sandwich but once the bill arrive I was charged for the Wild Boar. Now.....the biggest disappointment is that when we left, the parking lot was the same & only half of the place was filled with diners so I don't understand their excuse of it being a Holiday & with the majority of their menu being flatbreads hou would think they would have more or...

Mountain State Brewing Company might be in the People’s Republic of Maryland, but the heart and soul of this place is pure West Virginia. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, rustic, and welcoming — just like the Mountain State itself.
Let’s talk food — absolutely phenomenal. I had the grilled chicken flatbread pizza with ranch sauce, and it was spot-on. The crust was perfect, the toppings were fresh, and the ranch gave it just the right kick. And the Caesar salad? One of the best I’ve had in years. Crisp, cold, and loaded with flavor.
My wife went with the Cheeseburger in Paradise flatbread pizza, and she’s still talking about it. She paired it with their Raspberry Mojito, which she described as “dangerously delicious.” As the designated driver, I kept it classic with a Diet Coke — but next time, I’ll be back for one of their signature brews.
This place is more than just a restaurant — it’s a celebration of West Virginia Appalachia, tucked just across the border. Mountain State Brewing Company proudly represents what Mountaineers are all about — freedom, flavor, and a darn good time, no matter what...
