Mike's BBQ & Steakhouse — Restaurant in Oakman

Decided to venture out and find a BBQ joint outside of Birmingham. After a quick Google search finding places near a coworker, I saw Mike's BBQ! I got a 1/2 rib plate with baked beans and potato salad and it was amazing! Good quality meat with great sized portions. The meat had a consistent smoked flavor throughout and it was extremely tender. The baked beans were standard ol' beans, but the potato salad was perfectly classic! Big chunks of well cooked potatoes. No one ingredient was too much over the other. Just a great balance. The sweet tea could use work...but being from the south, how we like our sweet tea is a matter of subjective taste! Definitely recommend for anyone passing through Oakman or just looking to...

Great food, friendly staff. The only complaint is the wait time. Even after calling ahead had to wait for someone to be available to attend to the customers at the window and then when someone did small bbq sandwich and fries weren't ready and took another 15 minutes! That's in addition to the 20 minutes I called ahead. But I can't fault the sweet lady who served me today because when looking through the window one could see her working very hard to prepare orders while answering phones and serving customers at the windows. This place ROCKS! It may be small but it's some of the best food that I have ever eaten from a restaurant. I couldn't believe it. I'm blown away! The menu has a awesome variety of different foods from entries to sides, appetizers and drinks. The prices are a bit higher than the fast food chains but they're a private owned business so I expect as much. Y'all need to try this place. You won't regret it and I promise...
