I am only giving this place a 1 star review because of tonight. I ordered 3 Al Pastor tacos and 1 Carnitas taco. I have to say the carnitas taco was good shredded pork cilantro and onion basic street taco good and dependable. The Al Pastor tacos however were not Al Pastor at all. They were Carnitas with chipotle sauce and pineapple. Anyone who knows what actual Al Pastor is it is Fried pork. When I tried to get Actual Al Pastor they told me that this was it and that's their version. Anyone who reads this just Google Carnitas and Al Pastor and you will plainly see the difference it is a total different cooking method of the pork. The fact that they tried to play it off and then get mad when I called them out is unfortunate because the pride of the "authenticity" is non existent and they don't care. I tried to get a refund for 2 of the 4 tacos because I ate the carnitas it was good and I took a bite out of an "Al Pastor" taco and tasted and saw that it was in fact not an Al Pastor taco. My total bill was 60 and change for all the food wife's and drinks included each taco pastor 5 dollars and the carnitas is 4.50. I asked for a 10 dollar refund and they denied me because It wasn't what I thought and there was nothing wrong with them. When actually it was a totally wrong taco so yes there was something wrong with them. I didn't argue I said ok and explained to the waitress that there is actually a difference and that the "chef" didn't have a clue nor care. I tipped, of course because it's not the waitress' fault she was actually great. I write this not really as a complaint (yes I am complaining I know) but more of a warning to anyone who wants an Al Pastor taco. They have a sister restaurant that is owned and operated by the same people called Mi Ranchito that sell actual Al Pastor tacos but can't get La Chalupa to...
Read moreWe came for dinner mid-week; a dozen or so other diners. Service was quick; the server was friendly and prompt; the food was hot and plentiful. The margaritas were tasty; no unusual chemical taste that is sometimes present at other places. Chips were hot and tasty and the salsa was fresh. The Quesadilla Rellena with carne plancha is very tasty as are the Enchiladas Verdes and the Birria Tacos; some of the best we have encountered. Tell Ernesto that Nate and Lucia sent you and ask for a bit of the secret picante salsa! Prices are very reasonable. All-in-all an exceptional experience: not a 5 star but rather a 10 star! For those of you who loved El Camino Real, now that it is gone, this is your place. The restaurant is clean and the bathrooms are clean and that says...
Read moreI enjoyed the atmosphere. The "regulars" were friendly and helpful with the menu. When I eat alone I tend to sit at the bar, even though I don't drink. Service can be "hit and miss" if you are not drinking. However, the bartender was awesome and helpful as well. The food.... Mind you I am critical of food served to me. So..... chips, I liked. Salsa, not much flavor, see picture. I decided on 3 chicken tacos de carne asada. Very good presentation, plenty of chicken, tortillas were perfect, onions and cilantro spot on. However, I enjoy, to an extent, salt... they love salt. I would go back and try other dishes if I am in the area. If you can not have salt in your diet ask the wait staff for low or no salt. Overall......
