I do lots of reviews online and some are to help the business as much as the customer. So with that said: The food is really good. Comes out hot and fresh cooked from the kitchen. Really good food. The service is slow. I think it’s because the kitchen might be cooking one order at a time. If you have 6 to 12 guests and 4 order chicken or burgers or tenderloins then the service could be quicker by cooking more than 1 order at a time. The wait staff gets it out quickly, it just seems the kitchen takes a long time to make the orders. Not horrible but there was 26 minutes between a salad and the food. So plan to visit with your table companions a lot while waiting. The atmosphere is dingy, dirty, dark , old. It would be wonderful if they would paint! Ceilings, walls, doors, trim everything! Maybe take up the 1980s carpet squares and tile , and do a beautiful new flooring. They still have dingy fans on the ceilings - thank goodness they were not on! There are black little hunks of ???? On the ceiling. The whole thing needs a good cleaning and update. And the kitchen could probably use a makeover too I bet. I’m sure closing for a couple weeks or even closing an area and redoing it then move to the next area. Get some fresh paint everywhere and new floors to compliment...
Read moreCasual restaurant with small town charm! It is the perfect family sit down restaurant! Although the building is older, it is very clean and hug the aromas of their famous fried chicken! It is set up perfectly for a nice, intimate, family dinner. On the other hand, it is open enough that grabbing a beverage at the bar while waiting for a take out order is more than acceptable! Staff is polite, attentive, and intuitive with customers. We brought in our little one who is quite the chatter and our waitress listened to her, brought her a coloring page, and made her smile. She also suggested their prime rib special that was available on New Year’s Eve! My fiancé and I each got the special which included a salad, large piece of prime rib (I would guess 12 oz) au jus, creamy horseradish, twice baked potato (best I ever had) and green beans with ham for $25. Definitely enough for 2 meals. We usually get the roast beef manhattan’s which always knocks it out of the park, or their famous tenderloins. Their appetizer selection is great. We always get the loaded tots or pickle fries. Always hot, fresh, and fought over! Their desserts are great. Take out is always hot and fresh. 12/10 recommend! Come in at 3 or 4 before the dinner crowd for an even...
Read moreWent to Cincinatti for the day, and stopped here on the way back. Oldenberg is a heavily German-influenced town, and you can feel that. I don't know how long Brau Haus has been here, but it feels like it's been here from the start. The food was quite excellent. The fried chicken is top shelf. Also got the Koch special....roast beef, ham, mozarella, tomato, lettuce, and tartar sauce on rye bread. Sounds like a weird combination, but it works really well! That's going into the menu rotation at home! And the sauerkraut balls......man, I wish I could figure out how to make those myself! Be warned, you absolutely will not get a cell signal anywhere in town, so have it mapped out before hand. The service was a bit slow, even for an early Wednesday evening. But the local vibe was worth it, if you like overhearing things like "back in the old country." Definitely a "local" spot, and worth a trip, if you don't mind hanging...
