Worst birthday ever family offered to get me a cake on the way home but I was in a foul mood and still am, my god how could you ruin a special day, not sure if you forgot or just wanted me gone, I can only give the assistant manager a C- in resolving the most ridiculous service I’ve ever experienced at a high end restaurant. He did comp my meal that I took home and gave the cold prime rib to my dog that really seemed to enjoy it. Probably goona have to clean up a bad one. Anyway
It’s my Birthday I repeat BIRTHDAY and I heard they treat special occasions great and was so looking forward to it after a stressful May, so we show up very early but no problem as we sat at the bar lounge and had great drinks, to our surprise the table was ready before we even had drinks so thumbs up. But we then had to wait for drinks pay the tab at the bar before we would be able to sit as the girl trying to see us with the menus in her hand said. So we got drinks paid the tab went to the check in and waited over 5 minutes to get seated. No worries we had drinks. Got to the table and I should say my mother is in a wheelchair with an O2 tank so the seating girl had no clue so I told her we should have the other table. After waiting another 3-4 minutes she came back and said ok. But then still thought an elderly person in a wheelchair was gonna just magically walk. So we got mom wheeled in to the end of the table where she would fit. So inconsiderate I should report to the ADA, also on that note they have a smoking section right where drop off is for the Handicap including those ON OXEGEN. That alone should draw attention from everyone, I might just make a call to the fire department on that.
So we sit get great service for a bit have some nice drinks and appetizers when my Mother urgently needs the restroom, so while my sister takes her and we have more drinks on the way a woman with our meals shows up and just started putting food down randomly and telling imaginary people what the meals are and the sides and I’m like STOP can you wait a minute as I am talking she says “oh it’s great, that’s awesome” and walks away. At that point there was no coming back from my anger. The waitress then brought me a beer I’d ordered a good 10 minutes earlier after the awesome cocktail that must of took 10 minutes to make arrived 5 minutes earlier, but I digress. I said well finally and she sensed something wrong and so I tried to explain and she said she could take it all back and bring it back when my party returned as they were on the way back I said that’s ridiculous. She never came back to our table just the asst manger who was too touchy feelly for me and just had no help till I finally got the others to eat the food that was obviously cold. Wagyu was seized up like it sat for an hour and the prime rib had no red to it but the asst manger gave it to me for free I paid for the drinks and tipped over 20% on the full bill and got the heck out. NO BIRTHDAY TREAT or anything other then when they asked if it was a special occasion. I guess they knew it wasn’t special anymore. I’ll take my Mom to the OC mining co next time and next week I will try and make it up to her because she did give birth on my birthday next week at Morton’s but I promise you this, last time at the Orange hill. Been coming here since 2002 when my company hosted NYFD for our Christmas dinner and dropped over 5k alone on the Luis XIII. Btw my Mother was crying on the way out and home because I was so disappointed and upset. That makes me even more angry to the point you can expect a call tomorrow. So angry, so upset and it is now 10:41 pm and I still have had no food today. What a horrible day that was supposed to be so great. You all should be ashamed of yourself, if I wanted a free meal I would have gone to Denny’s and would have had a better meal. You all took any appetite I had away with my anger and lack of AC it’s takin 7 hours for me to be hungry and now I have no food. How would you heat up a gray prime rib that has no pink anyway. Heads should roll. No Michelin...
Read moreA great experience with very very average food.
Overview:
Food - the food was a bit lackluster in my opinion. It was good, but not exactly a good bang for your buck - 2.5/5
Service - Service was great, the hosts are super nice and our waitress was great. The were very accommodating - 5/5
Atmosphere - Immaculate. The sat us outside on the outer railing so we had a good view - 5/5
In Detail Review:
Food -
Pink Brick Wagyu - (3/5) Wagyu that I have to cook myself is kinda hard to mess up lol. It tastes great but it feels a bit gimmicky. The salt brick hardly adds flavor. The chimichurri was pretty good. But for $36 bucks, you hardly get 4oz of meat. Was it good? Yes. Would i get it again? No
Calamari - (1/5) Very disappointed in this dish. It came out room temperature. The batter was crumbly instead of crispy. The calamari pieces were so small that I practically had to convince myself that i was eating calamari lol It was SALTY. Combined with the spicy mayo, it was unbearably salty. Its $23 bucks... Would i get it again? Nooooo (theres better calamari at BJs for a fraction of the price)
Wild Mushroom Pappardelle Pasta (4/5) Im not a big pasta or mushroom guy, but this was pretty good The portion was sufficient The ingredient quality was good It didnt feel as heavily soaked in butter as many other pasta dishes do They give the option to add either shrimp or chicken on top but i opted not to (i wasn't sure if it was extra charge) It was $38... Would i get it again? No. Flavor was great but not $38 great.
Salmon Tartare - (3.5/5) Its kind of hard to mess up raw salmon, but this was VERY salty. The spicy miso sauce that came with it was very good, but also very salty It was about $20 Would I get it again? Nah. You can get a bowl of poke with a lot more food, for a lot less $$
Drinks -
Ube Colada - (5/5) Very Very good Not a whole lot of coconut, primarily ube and pineapple Would 100% get again
Strawberry Dreaming - (4/5) Very Ginger beer heavy Refreshing and fizzy Would definitely get again!!
Service -
The staff is on the younger side; mostly college students it seems Hosts/Hostesses were super kind and social Wait staff were very attentive and helpful Felt very welcome :)
Atmosphere:
The Valet states optional online, but im pretty sure its mandatory lol. Not complaining, it definitely makes things less hectic when arriving The building itself is quite small (short ceilings and narrow hallways; almost as if it were someone's house once upon a time) The view was great Music was very modern which was fine i guess but it caught me off guard (2010s pop)
Final Thoughts: When you come here, you are paying for the experience and the view. Its a nice romantic place to take your special someone, however if you consider yourself a foodie or connoisseur in any way, I wouldn't recommend you come here. The food was lackluster and they do charge a pretty penny. Do I plan to come here again? Not anytime soon. Did I enjoy my time there? Yes,...
Read moreI celebrated my anniversary dinner here with my significant other and were very disappointed. To start we waited 30 minutes to be sat even though we had a reservation. On top of that it took an hour and 34 minutes for part of our meal to come out. The salad never came out and when we received our entrees the food was very cold and the steak had released all the juices from sitting for long. The plate was very poorly presented but what was most disappointing was the cold food and poorly done Caviar & Truffle Baked Potato. We came exactly a year ago to this restaurant and had the exact same meal and can attest the quality and presentation has gone significantly down. For a potato that’s $28 you would except it be a quality potato. It was evident that the kitchen was busy which leads me to my other point. When we came to the restaurant a year ago the restaurant was very busy but the waitress had a normal and manageable amount of tables to attend to. This time around our waitress was taking care of the whole right side of the balcony. We asked for extra sauce at the very beginning of our meal and never received the sauce until we both finished our plates. When we finished our meal the waitress brought out our salad. We had completely finished our meal and were waiting for our check and she was barely going to serve us the salad. RIDICULOUS. At that point we had been at the restaurant for 2 hours and 20 minutes and needed to leave. We asked for our check and it took our waitress another 20 minutes to come back with our check. Management needs to have more waitress on staff to handle the volume of reservations that are being accepted. It’s not only unfair to the waitress but it’s unfair to the customers that go there and receive bad service especially when many of us celebrate big moments at this establishment. We were clearly forgotten and the waitress realized way too late. Our food was sitting there just waiting to be served. The food ended up being cold on a hot day, that should tell you something. Overall we feel so disappointed because a year ago we couldn’t stop recommending this restaurant and now we feel disappointed by a restaurant that we cherished. We paid $100 + for an extremely disappointing meal. The waitress never even apologized for the delay or the fact that she brought out our salad almost 2 and a half hours later. We know they don’t serve your salad after your entree. They simply forgot about us and never offered any apology or remedy to the situation. To top it all off everyone has to pay for mandatory valet parking which is already annoying but we ended up paying the valet driver to drive recklessly. We both watched as he came in fast and hit the bumper of the car on the dip right by the drop off area. The guy got out and didn’t even apologize. He didn’t even have the decency to acknowledge us. The valet lady also saw everything happen and heard us complain out loud about him hitting our car and there was no sympathy, acknowledgement, or apology. We paid a guy to mess...
