My wife and I wanted to try Hutto's for lunch this past very rainy Saturday after reading some online posts about good experiences there. We both ended up ordering the seafood platter with 10 shrimp and a piece of fish. My wife had flounder and I had the red snapper. Both of which add a few dollars for the upcharge (+3 flounder/+6 red snapper) which we didn't notice until it was time to pay. However those upcharges are clearly marked on their menu board behind the counter. We both ordered a drink and wanted unsweetened tea. However both the sweet and unsweet tanks were empty. We asked about it and said they were going to make tea. They started cleaning out the tanks but the tea wasn't available by the time we left. The food was okay but nothing special. The shrimp were medium sized and still had the tails and the little feet on them. I don't mind the tails which most restaurants do but the feet need to come off if you are frying them. Nothing better than any calabash style buffet at MYR Beach. The fried okra my wife ordered was good. It had a nice light coating and was cooked perfectly. I had the french fries. Ordinary crinkle fries and they were fine. I ordered the red snapper as my fish and it looked great with cross cut marks to help the batter and frying work better. It however was dry and a bit stiff indicating it was overcooked. Tasted okay but wouldn't pay $6 extra for that. With a "click one of these" 18% tip for stand up ordering our total was +$52 which was a bit shocking. The place was very clean including the restroom and there are enough tables to dine in. Some other folks dining at the same time had some chicken wings which looked very good and they seem to be enjoying them. Candidly, I'm not sure we will be back as for the money there are several much...

Service: Too slow!
I came to this restaurant with my family and upon arrival was greeted by the cashier. We ordered 2 fried snapper fish, 2 whiting fish specials, 6 steamed blue crabs, and 8 pc fried wings. The fish orders came out after a 20 minute wait. We asked for sauces, but apparently, you can only get one sauce per order, that was irritating but okay sure... we let it go.
Then, my family waited in the car, while I stayed for our last 2 orders. I waited another 20-25 mins for the chicken wings (which are actually drummetes) and 6 steamed crabs. By this time, my wife came in to see what was taking so long. I asked for a sauce for these orders. The lady told me I could not get sauce because I ordered chicken wings/ steam crabs. RIDICULOUS! If you can get one sauce per order, it shouldn't matter WHAT I ordered. After waiting 25 mins for wings and crabs, you'd think I could get a sauce without hassle, but NOPE. So, we left.
Everything was overcooked (other than the snapper)! Which makes sense, because we waited entirely too long for them to cook it! It shouldn't take 40-45 mins to fry fish, wings, and steam crabs! The service is slow and the food is not good....
Read moreLife-changing. Once you've had Hutto, there's no going back to any other seafood restaurant. The fried seafood is lightly fried with their signature batter that is almost like tempura batter, but slight denser. My favorite is the classic fried catfish but the porgey is also great for anyone who prefers a fishier taste.
The steamed bags are also perfectly seasoned and always include the sweetest corn. Try one with steamed fish. AMAZING.
Last but not least, the chicken wings. Again, they are lightly fried in Hutto's signature batter and fall off the bone. I ALWAYS order the chicken wings.
Their batter is truly one-of-a-kind, light, and delicious. I might have to start ordering the fries and fried okra from now on too because they are so good with the batter.
Try Hutto's, ya...
