An absolute haven at the footsteps of the Maumee Bay State Park! Look, I'm not particularly a coffee connoisseur. I'm the guy that feels woefully guileless at coffee shops, vineyards, and sushi bars. The exotic blends from Ethiopia, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, and elsewhere are lost on me but the cups of drip coffee we ordered were delightful. I spent the day on a date being a below average bird watcher and needed a cup of coffee to come to terms with the reality that if it's not a bald eagle or ostrich or flamingo I'll probably never get it right. What a welcoming spot on a beautiful day! The ladies working the counter were efficient and kind. The patio couldn't have been more comfortable and inviting! We shared a cup of Perry's ice cream and if you're not familiar with the brand or spent much time in Buffalo or upstate NY do yourself a favor, read their story, and treat yourself to a pint. The Bittersweet Sinphony had just enough coffee flavor to balance the fudge swirls and chunks and keep us debating which taste was in charge. Ultimately it was on this patio on this day that I realized I'd rather be terribly ignorant in the presence of gaggles of gooses, murders of crows, parliaments of owls, or an unkindness of ravens with this woman than be an expert at anything with anyone else. I'm not sure you can ask for more than that from a coffee shop or anywhere, really. The ambiance, the aura, the vibes...whatever it is we call this sense of kinship and belonging in an increasingly autonomous world is exactly what every neighborhood needs. I'll be back early and...
Read moreI stopped in April 8, around 5pm; asked the clerks (two young women, maybe teens) if they had any non-dairy smoothie options. One of them said no. (Full stop.) This was, surprisingly, a closed-ended question in search of some critical thinking — the interaction should have went something like this: “there is ice, there is some type of fruit… there are milk alternatives, let’s see what we can create”. I tried to ask if they could just make a smoothie and leave out the milk. My friend whispered in my ear, “don’t even bother, you can tell they don’t want to be here.” And I agree. We were a bother just walking in the store (no eye contact, no hi how are you doing). I had to suggest my own alternative (a slushy that was just flavorless frozen red sugar water).
Please train your help how to think on their feet, how to adapt menu items to special requests, and how to get the sale, how to delight customers. And if on occasion none of that is possible, show them how to listen with empathy, appear engaged, and remedy the situation by offering the closest alternatives they can. Service was lackluster on this visit. I may return soon. I really...
Read moreThe picture attached is exactly why I love going into or getting a drive-thru order at Freight House. Not only are the drinks refreshing, but everyone my husband and I have gotten an order from adds real heart and personality into what they’re doing. I love violet flavoring but when it’s added to drinks I feel that the flavoring becomes more muted, but when I ask to additional syrup; they do it in a fun way. I know I’ve been giggling about it since I got it, I find it so funny. It’s been 2 years since I started coming here and I truly have loved every visit and interaction from day one. Freight House isn’t simply one of the best places to go for great customer service and hospitality, but their drinks and almost whimsical brunch vibes are worth coming back...
