Hands down, the best wine in this region of Michigan! We went based on Google review recommendations for the food pairing. They no longer do the $20 pairing deal, nor do they offer tasting pours (a little strange). We were very hungry, so decided to just get a few apps with the suggested half glass pours. BEST... CHOICE... EVER! The food was delicious and each and every wine was amazing! We enjoyed our food/drink on the quiet, beautiful patio out in the warm sunshine. The chef came around to say hi and deliver creative "flowers" made from carved veggies and green onion stalks (cute touch). I love dry wines and this place delivered! If you are a foodie and love dry wine, this place is a must. It adds up and was a little expensive, but some experiences are worth it. I would love to order more wines from here throughout the year! Highly suggest this place!

First visit and we'll be back. It's a bit off the beaten path but well worth the drive. The lady that took care of us knows their wines and zeroed in to my taste preference's quickly making some suggestions. Red wines from Michigan always seem to be a tad bit lacking in my opinion. Well, Free Run Cellars just blew my opinion out of the water. I did a flight of reds not expecting much and tried the Lemberger, Sangiovese Reserve and Meritage. All three were excellent but the Lemberger and Sangiovese Reserve were outstanding and would easily rate at a 92 to 93. I'd put these two up against reds from anywhere. I've been to wineries in France, Italy and all over the USA. If you're in to visiting wineries, I strongly recommend visiting Free Run Cellars and sampling their wines.

I enjoyed a wine tasting at Free Run one afternoon. The patio was very comfortable and shaded, and the interior looked nice too. A friendly dog greeted me when I came in, so that was fun. The wines I tried were excellent, and I thought the two reds I sampled were delicious and complex. Those two reds were the Lemberger and the Meritage. The Lemberger had to be my favorite with lots of black fruit flavors along with some smoky and leathery notes. I’d definitely recommend Free Run if you’re in the area and looking for maybe a slightly more low key option.

I am very late in posting my review, however, it’s still valid. We arrived at free run with a group of 10 adults (ranging in our 30s-50s). We did arrive on a bus as we were all traveling from IN and wanted to travel together. We were NOT a rowdy group. Additionally, we were unaware the cellar does not like or accept large groups. After talking to the bartender, we explained we were not aware of the group limit and if we could still be served. They agreed as there were literally 2 other couples in the winery. We sat outside, near no other guests. The waitress and bartenders completely ignored us. We went up to the bar to order, however, the bartender continued to tell us the waitress will take our order at the table. But NO one came to take our order. After waiting 30+ minutes, we decided to leave. We were a little larger group, but we were by no means disrespectful, loud or disruptive. I understand and respect the environment they wanted, however, as a reminder there was no other patrons in the winery at that moment. Completely horrible service on their part. If they didn’t want to serve us, they should have stated as such when we walked in and no ignore us. Very ignorant and I will not be...
