Great American Campground & Dive Bar — Restaurant in Osage Beach

We were traveling and happened upon this bar on Halloween and stopped in for some food. Let me tell you the costumes and atmosphere of this place was so fun and outgoing we stayed for drinks. Let me start with the food, we started with the crab cakes (she wanted it I didnt) they were so good and that is big coming from myself because I usually don't like them. We ordered the gumbo and the the cowboy steak and OMG, this steak was cooked exactly how I ordered it (medium rare) and for a place that is named a dive bar they cook a better steak than those places I would have to have a suit to enter. I want to say that the down home feel and level of personal service reminds me of the last all inclusive resort we had a vacation at. Obviously this was Halloween and when we finished eating and were ready to leave the proprietor had already checked in with us to see how our experience was and made us feel welcome even though we were just passing through. We felt so welcome that we rented an AIR-BB nearby since we had a few drinks and stayed the night. What a fun place with awesome people, patrons, staff and owners. The only reason they are getting two stars is the server.

The good - fried pickles - however they state spicy and they def are mild at best. The server. Nice lady.

The bad - everything else.

Crawfish - over cooked, breading was mushy as it sat in its own pool of grease. Shrimp - not deveined. None of the batter seasoned. The most Flavorless crawfish and shrimp I’ve had in a while. Out of the crab crakes I wanted. Waitress said the linguine and shrimp was good but not when the chef isn’t in. Which he wasn’t. Hush puppies were stone cold - also flavorless. Coleslaw was decent. Had to ask for remoulade and cocktail sauce.

It was just a flavorless greasy mess. The whole thing. $65 for mediocre sub par food is unacceptable wether the chef is there or not.

Also if you want a side other than coleslaw they are gonna up charge you $4 per side. What the actual heck? I get a buck or two but unless it’s lobster Mac no way I’m paying an extra $4 for fries instead...

Atmosphere and bar are amazing. Service is always good. The food is overpriced. Unfortunately my steak was cold & my salad was hot. You can’t leave a salad sitting out it needs to be cold and crispy my spouse got the gumbo, no okra in the gumbo….?? Our best friends went in. He ordered the large ribeye, and they brought him a small ribeye … they took it back, brought him out another. It was also a small ribeye. I took that one back and brought out another. It was also a small ribeye …😳😳😳😳 he finally gave up . This was the first month they were open so hopefully the cooks will learn and things will improve. We go on a weekly basis to meet our friends and have cocktails. Great meet up place for the fall and winter months when it’s too cold to be on the lake.
