First of all let me say, I HATE leaving negative reviews. In this case I have no choice but to leave 1 star.
This was our 2nd time here. 1st time the experience was OK but they were out of the first 3 things we tried to order but what we did end up with was passable and enough to give it a other try.
Tonight it started off bad and went to worse. We stood at the hostess stand waiting to either be seated. There was a bartender and 4 patrons at the bar mere steps away who we could clearly see and who could clearly see us but no one greeted us. After about 2 minutes I asked the bartender if we can just sit anywhere. She said yes so we took a booth. Close to 15 minutes went by and no one came to the table. We were literally in the process of gathering our things to leave when the bar tender came and apologized saying "I had a drink order and I have no idea what I'm doing." She was the only staff member in the bar and dining room. Which was fine because aside from the 4 bar patrons my husband and myself were the only 2 people there. I wish we had made the decision to leave 10 seconds sooner because we could have escaped the situation which was about to unfold.
My husband asked what is the best beer there and she said and I quote "we are out of all the good ones". So the only beer they had left is no good? Being out of menu items seems to be the theme of this place.
We both ordered 1/2 lb burgers cooked medium. When the food arrived my burger was not even a 1/4 lb - no more than 3" across and thin as a cracker. My husband's was much larger. I asked the server if mine was the 1/2lb. She looked like a deer in the headlights and said "I dont know." I then asked if it was a frozen burger patty because it looked terrible. She said no. They are made fresh. OK fine. I took it at face value. We are extremely laid back, patient people so I just accepted my tiny burger as long as I wasn't being charged for the larger one. She came back & said she has accidentally entered mine as the smaller burger & apologized stating the guys at the bar were giving her a hard time. I said "no problem. This one is fine."
However that was a lie. It was not fine. Far from it. Both our burgers were burnt & as dry as the aforementioned cracker. How the cook managed to over cook 2 burgers to the exact same degree of hockey puck when one was 1/2 the size of the other is a real feat. Not a single drop of juice, grease or flavor to be found. Honestly the worse burger I have ever had. And I've eaten out of a dumpster behind Carl's Jr. before.
We said nothing to the server because she looked completely overwhelmed and on the verge of a break down and I don't want to send her off the deep end so we just accepted our fate. My husband made the joke "at least they can't mess up a salad."
Oh, but they can. My house salad was lettuce and a mound of shaved carrots. No tomatoes, no croutons, no cheese, and my ranch dressing was what tasted and appeared to be little more than sour cream with something possibly approaching ranch seasoning but not enough to taste like ranch dressing. I took one bite and pushed it aside.
In the 6 years my husband and I have been together I can't recall a time I have ever seen him not clean his plate. Until today. He didnt even eat half his burger. I choked down 2 bites of mine and could do no more. We brought the salad home to use the lettuce for the BLTs we ended up making for dinner when we got home.
I will say the blooming onion was great. If the other food & service had been as good this would be a 5 star review.
The fact that this place is running out of menu items all the time implies there are customers coming in to eat the food. It seems hard to believe there are any folks left willing to come here.
I don't understand why one would choose to go into the restaurant business if they have so little care for guest experience and food quality and cannot properly cook even a humble burger.
I always root for the underdog but Sadly, I don't think this place will be around...
Read moreI am sorry to hear that this place has new ownership, we have been coming here for the last 20 years during New Year's weekend and always had good food and service but not any more. Let's start with the ice tea that my girlfriend ordered, it was so watered down that it had no tea flavor and looked like water. Next we had the blooming onion which was just ok, they told us that they lost the tool to take out the core so to not eat the middle of the onion which would of been fine except that the pieces would just break off in tiny pieces, next onto the sauce which had a okay taste but was so watery that it doesn't stick to the onion and drips all over the place. Next onto the menu, who has a menu with only one entree on it? I understand a limited menu when first opening but from what I heard they have been open for 6 months now. My girlfriend had the prime rib for $30 with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts, the meat was mostly fat and the sprouts were so dry that they were like powder, the potatoes were good. Since I can't eat steak and had no other choice but to have a burger I tried the mushrooms and Swiss burger, it was dry as a bone including the mushrooms, I hate McDonald's and their mushrooms and Swiss burger is way better, fries were good, so the only thing good was the mashed potatoes and fries for a $66 dollar price tag. Next came the bill, we waited for 15 minutes for that and it never came so my girlfriend decided to wait it the truck, I waited for another 10 minutes and still no bill so I went up to the hostess and told her I would like my bill and she said she would track down the waitress, 10 minutes later I finally got it. It's a shame to see a great restaurant turn into this but I will never be back, time for a new tradition next...
Read moreMy wife and I have been to Wiltse's many times in the past before it changed ownership to what it is now and always had a pretty good experience. Now, I would say they are not quite ready for prime time. We were seated and ordered beers while looking over the menu which had 25 to 30 food items including appetizers. Since we hadn't been there before under new ownership we decided to go with "signature dish" advertised at the top of the menu and on the big lighted marquee outside on the road, the Dirty Reuben. We were told by the server that during the week they used it all up and not only didn't they have that, here's a hand written list of the other 8 to 10 items we are out of. So roughly a third of the menu was out of stock. So I ordered the bacon apple sandwich and my wife ordered a mushroom burger. A reasonable time passed and I got the sandwich I ordered and my wife was served a olive burger which she sent back. We both were served our order and it was pretty good. I especially liked mine. Now I don't fault the server, I fault the manager and their lack of training their people. There are so many things wrong with this whole scenario. First, go to the grocery store, pay more and keep your menu, you never, NEVER, don't make the signature menu item when it is advertised as it was. Train your people properly! Really, a handwritten list of things you don't have AFTER someone orders. We might try again someday but with The Mountain and several other eating place within a short drive, there will be no rush. BTW, I tipped the server fully (22% or so), this is not the...
