I have been here several times and had an excellent experience every time until last night. I went out for prime rib. They asked how I would like my steak done. I responded I would like it medium well. I am not a fan of uncooked meat. I like some pink in the middle, but not red and most definitely not bloody. The cooks here clearly have no clue what the difference is between a rare steak and a charred steak. I had to send my steak back twice to be brought a charred piece of leather on a plate. The first time I received my steak it was obviously rare. The meat looked uncooked, red, bloody, and the first bite I had to spit out. After waiting a few minutes the server asked how things were going and I had asked to have my steak cooked a little longer. Once again I was asked, “ you want it medium well right?” I said yes and she brought it back to the kitchen, it was not in the kitchen more than 30 seconds I watched the cook slap it on the plate after drenching it with Au Jus. They returned the same rare steak within 45 seconds after taking it back to the kitchen. It was obvious the cook had not even attempted to cook the steak. He thought if he just soaked it in the Au Jus again the steak would appear darker and more cooked. I knew immediately that the steak had not been cooked any more and that it was obviously just dipped in Au Jus. Once again I had to wait several minutes and ended up having to get the bar tender get my server. Once again, I had to ask if my steak could be cooked a little longer, I cut into the steak and showed the server the bleeding rare steak. Again, confirming that I want the steak medium well she brought it back to the kitchen. I didn’t see my plate for another 10 minutes. My steak was then brought to me covered in a black burnt layer, it was crunchy on the outside and tough as leather on the inside. Even after dipping it in Au Jus it was too dry to eat. After a few drinks, 2 prime rib meals, and a tip, this meal costed us $60.00. I have never had such a disappointing experience with food anywhere. I was served a rare steak twice, then skipped everything inbetween and went right to charred. This was a huge disappointment for a Saturday night special especially when I was originally asked how I would like my steak to be done. My steak should not have been paid for as I had 2 bites that we’re capable of eating and left 12oz of the 14oz steak on the plate, and was most definitely not bringing that home. We had to pay for our meal in full after such a bad experience. I do plan on returning to this place without new cooks, or a properly trained cook who knows the difference between a rare steak and an extremely...
Read moreHeard about this place on the Venture Wisconsin facebook page. Was really excited to try the tap tables, but they were full when we got there. No big deal- we figured we would come back with a larger group another time. Decided to stay and eat. Got beers and an appetizer which were fine. My burger was pretty good. The potatoes that came on the side didnt seem to have been washed. Just seasoned and cooked. There was a little bit of residual dirt on them from whatever store they came from. My friend got a steak and garlic potatoes. There was so much garlic on both the steak and the potatoes that it was inedible. She lost her appetite and asked the waitress to take it away and explained that there was way too much garlic. The waitress then proceeded to argue with her and said "Well, I said it was garlic mashed potatoes." And stormed off. I have been a waitress both at Buffalo Wild Wings and Texas Roadhouse and I have never seen anyone argue with or treat a customer like the waitress treated my friend. She then said we had to pay for at least half the price of the meal or she would get in trouble. I haven't heard of such a thing before. Maybe the kitchen would get talked to, but I highly doubt management would take it out on her since the foods preparation is out of her control. I ended up having to tell her we weren't going to pay for a meal that she took one bite of and was inedible. I, obviously, still paid my bill, no problem. We were nothing but polite and trying to work with her but she was arguing and being extremely passive aggressive and rude to us. It was a really disappointing experience.
To top it off, we asked to speak to a manager and there wasnt a manager on site. Why wouldnt a manager be on site during dinner rush? We even offered to talk to the manager for her since she seemed to think she would get in trouble and she just rolled her eyes and said no. We asked for a number to call and she said there wasnt one.
According to the bartender, our waitress's name was Jill.
It was just such a weird, uncomfortable, unprofessional experience. We were going to come back and just not get food but use the tap table with a group of friends, but at this point we wouldnt feel comfortable coming back. It sucks because we really like trying to support local restaurants and bars.
I suggest everyone go somewhere else for their gastropub experience for good food and...
Read moreFirst timers. Drove 30 minutes. Went for the smoked prime rib. Unfortunately, the whole prime had been overcooked. We ordered 1 rare & 1 medium rare. Both came out looking the same. Pale, dry & overcooked to medium well. No smoke flavor. Cooks should not expect the server to take out food that is not prepared as ordered, and hope for the best. Salads were fresh & large portion. Beer cheese soup was good. Rice pilaf was either not fresh or overcooked/dry & crunchy. No baked potato option, but liked the garlic mashed. Good hand muddled old fashions. Annabelle was excellent as our bartender & server. She needs a raise! She made concessions on our bill for the prime rib. She was friendly, engaging & helpful. Initial impression wasn't good as you approach the unused patio & landscaping that was weeds, crap trees & growth that should have been cleaned up last fall. Metal bar stools & dining chairs VERY uncomfortable. Honestly, that alone will stop us from going back. I did think it was an odd type of establishment where the young men that were working were doing...
