My wife and I eat here regularly, as do all our friends; some of whom travel 30 minutes or more. Prices are very low, food is delicious and incredibly plentiful and fresh. Chrissy serves up lots of wonderful dishes, and there is always a great selection of specials on the board. Half size portions are available in for fried plates, and it's a good thing, because half is more than most folks can eat. Baked haddock is a very fresh, thick fillet; not the usual thawed fishtail. Scampi with linguine is loaded with more large shrimp than you can imagine, the remainder of which will likely be packed to go home. All her pasta creations are wonderful and creative. Try the fried mushroom appetizer for a real treat... ask for a half portion for two people, which is not listed on the menu. Burgers are huge! The hot sandwiches are fabulous... the Cuban, loaded with meat, is one of my favorites. Lots of wonderful beers, brewed locally. I love the Steel Rail pale ale. Like fried smelts? You'll get a heaping mound of them, enough for two. Reservations are not taken, but waits are rarely more than ten minutes at the height of summer tourist season. The setting is the 150 year old Ossipee train station, which sits aside now defunct Boston & Maine tracks. Lots of old steam rail photos and memorabilia. Service is always swift, and waitresses are friendly. Free Wi-Fi. The idiot that posted that he got five fries and a small piece of fish is a liar. This restaurant is well known for very generous portions and low prices, and its patrons are regulars, including both local residents and vacationers. Nobody has ever received a small piece of fish here, and they certainly never got anything less than fabulously generous portions. I am a 230 pound man and find half portions of her seafood plates to be more than enough for a full meal, and could never eat a large plate. My "small" plate of fried scallops last evening were a full dozen of large, succulent, perfectly cooked, moist, tender sea scallops, done to perfection, served with my choice...
Read moreJust showing this little place some love. My friends and I were in town for a little girl's weekend and needed to kill some time before we checked into the house. We went to the sap house across the street and then stopped in here for a quick bite. You could tell that everything they were serving was homemade with love and not from a box (unlike that awful tourist trap Ossipee Mountain grill). Our waitress was so lovely and so very sweet when I told her I had a gluten allergy. She had them leave out the bread from the French onion soup (on her suggestion! Before I even had to ask!). Let me tell you, it was the BEST French onion I have ever had. So packed with flavor. It was so rich and delicious. With yummy, gooey Swiss melted on top. Mmm! My friend also loved her chowder. This is a quaint, no frills, roadside diner in a former train depot. They serve beer, wine & hard seltzer. They had a specials board with some delicious looking items as well. Truly a hidden gem. Next time, I will go...
Read moreI love the Mountainview Station. LOVE IT. I wish they would go back to serving breakfast, though. I was forced to go to Miss Wakefield's instead and had a very disappointing experience.
But, for lunch or dinner, this is the place to go for sure. I haven't had one thing I have been disappointed in yet in my many, many visits. If you have room for it, get one of their ice cream sundaes. If you don't have room, ask for a mini one. They will make you a smaller version if you can't manage the big one.
I will say that I did have one little blip there recently. They have a new server. A younger girl with a bit of an attitude. Maybe she was having an off day, but she never refilled our drinks because she was too busy chatting about personal stuff by the stools and made us go to the cash register to pay even though we were the only ones in there. I didn't see her there the last time I went, so maybe she didn't last long. But if Kathy (Cathy?) is there, ask for her. She has served us many times and...
