@570 foodie - you should probably step a foot outside the "570" (yikes) and see the world or a different county at the very least...STEP AWAY from the local cockaroach infested corner bar....
Anyway, the food here is fantastic. There is no comparison in Northeast PA since there is simply no BBQ here. Not BBQ that a southerner would willfully injest.
Not until Smoak. The brisket which is a notorious beast of a meat to perfect in the smoker was the best I've ever had. (I've left the 570 and been to Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, Louisiana, etc). It was flavorful, tender, and fatty as it should be. Pulled pork was similarly balanced and melted in one's mouth. I could taste the North Carolina expertise. Same with the pork belly. The BBQ sauce augmented the meat with the right amount of umami, sweetness and tang without overpowering its essence. Chicken wings were smoky, and one fell right off the bone and into my mouth.
All of our sides were tasty and the owner was maganimous to ourselves as well as other customers. Its one man running a magic show. He offered hospitality but with the quality of the food, he could have been the rudest SOB to grace this earth and I wouldn't care. Good food tastes time.
BBQ is about the meat and the expertise....
Read moreRibs? Yes! Brisket? Yes! Pulled Pork? Yes! All amazingly tasty and cooked to perfection...and drizzled with the best BBQ sauce I have ever had (hoping I can buy it in a bottle soon, wink wink)...we got the meat sampler plate. The cole slaw and baked beans were good. The place is small but decorated with a super cool vibe. I was actually mentally stealing decor ideas while waiting for my food. The owner was great but he was the cashier, cook, and the only one working. That's my only ding. It was Saturday around noon and it took awhile to get our food and there were people pouring in as we were waiting. It was too busy to not have help and the service lacked because of it. This is by far the best BBQ joint in NEPA and quite the hidden gem. My advice to the owner is to embrace the awesomeness and hire some help to work the register and to add a big neon sign outside that says "WATCH OUT! WARNING! You may get addicted to our BBQ"......The restaurant has a pavilion where you could sit outside and the public boat launch for Lake Winola is within walking distance. It's a nice setting. Oh, and the cornbread? It comes as a thick yummy waffle....

First off...small business owners can get extremely busy...be understanding and kind.
After a very long, busy day working in the yard I decided to take a chance on ordering a whole lot of BBQ online for pickup. When I arrived everything was packaged up but the brisket...the owner kindly let us know he just had to get the brisket for us then proceeded to cut and pack it up while we waited chatting a bit with us as he did so. VERY friendly and personable...took the time to ask if we liked some fat on our brisket or lean...we decided on a bit of both and he delivered.
The BBQ was delicious! Sides were also very yummy but I was partial to the brisket! I've also followed his business page on Facebook for a while now where I've noticed he is very transparent about everything he does which makes me want to support this small business more! Can't wait to get my hands on some more of that amazing...
