We were excited to try Half Baked and Fully Roasted, especially after reviewing the menu—we really liked the prices. Walking in, we noticed the floor didn’t look like it had been swept in weeks, and everything we touched felt sticky - but its a diner, whatever - not the end of the world during Sunday rush hours.
I ordered the Corned Beef Hash Eggs Benedict for $14.99, and he got the Biscuits and Gravy with two eggs and home fries for $13.99. I substituted my home fries for hash browns, which resulted in two greasy "McDonald's style" hash brown patties and a $2.99 charge that wasn’t mentioned when ordering.
I was thrilled to see homemade corned beef hash on the Eggs Benedict, but upon taking the first bite, I instantly regretted my decision—it tasted like oranges. There was a large amount of orange peel visibly present in the corned beef hash, and the hollandaise sauce had an overpowering lemon flavor. I couldn’t take another bite. My fiancé ate mine while I had his eggs and home fries, and I ordered a side of bacon and toast to round out my meal. He left a pile of the corned beef hash on the plate because it was inedible. No wait staff asked why we switched plates or why we ordered additional food.
Here comes the curve ball—we got the bill, and every item was $2-$3 more than stated on the menu. When we asked the waitress, her response was, "We haven't had new menus since COVID. There is a sign right there saying the prices are different than the menu. I guess you can’t really see the sign from your table, but yeah, all the prices have gone up since COVID, so that is your true bill." Such a wild response and resolution!
The servers were nice but clearly felt uncomfortable about the menu prices being different and never asked how the food really was—my guess is because they know it is not good.
My fiancé paid the now $62 bill for food that was not good, servers who misled us on menu up charges, and a menu that is almost five years outdated. We paid the bill and left—will not be returning.
This place is called Half Baked and Fully Roasted because management must be half baked the way they are cooking and...
Read moreReally wanted to like this place. Serving Peets coffee in Oxford? Fantastic. Except it didn't last. Fourth visit and last visit. On previous visits, the owner's chef’s coat stains were concerning. However, I figured if he was in the kitchen, then? The breakfasts were good enough that we returned. This visit, Owner still had the coat and stains, but wasn’t working in the kitchen. Seating folks instead and helping out front. In previous visits, the home fries had been the weak spot, in an overall B- breakfast. This morning, though, entirely different experience. Cheddar omelette tough, minimal cheese. Sausage patties grey, undercooked. Home fries were black, warmish. I am not kidding. D+ at best. The coffee? $2.79 for diner coffee which tastes like dishwater? Upon tasting it, I asked the owner if they were still serving Peets. No, he stopped serving Peets and now serves another brand. Mentioning how new brand is $2 cheaper and folks love it! "The invoice would be a thousand dollars" he stated. One sip told me all I needed to know. Looking at the bill, I noticed coffee is still 2.79, even though Peets isn't being served...I asked the server and was told "It still costs the same" I stated the owner just said it was cheaper...server said I should ask owner to remove it. Missing the point, entirely... "Peet’s roasted premium roasted coffee, too." from Worcester Business Mag Dec 2020. If you are not serving premium coffee, then don't charge premium prices. (FWIW-Carl's diner in Oxford charges 2 bucks for their coffee, and their home fries are legit.) When leaving, Ralph asked what was going on-and I said no problem, we just won’t be back. When I began to outline our disappointment, he became defensive and I realized this conversation was a waste of time. Too bad, I was hoping this place would make it. If drastic steps aren’t taken here, it’s over. I feel badly for everyone in the restaurant business (including this place) right now. The obstacles to success just keep getting...
Read moreFirst upon ordering drinks, we ordered 2 cokes and 1 diet coke. The Very nice Waitress came back with them(served in Mason jars with no lid which is whatever and just a straw(hmm okay interesting idea.) Next upon sipping the soda(Coke) it didn't taste like Pepsi or Coke. Hmm upon glancing over at the soda fountain I noticed it had a different company named on the soda tap stickers. Wasn't bad, tasted kind of like a less sweet version of R.C.Cola.
The Waitress came back to take our orders and within 10 minutes my food(the half baked burger") and my family's orders came out to us. Wow Quick I'll say!! Now keep in mind all burgers are served with onion,L&T. This burger was supposed to have guacamole on it too. Nope neither were on it,kinda disappointed as the gauc. was the main reason I was looking forward to it. Crinkle cut fries with alot of salt were served and a pickle which seemed sort of off tasting. Okay I'm not here to knock a small business and I ate my food and shut up because I was hungry despite the following of what I experienced as cons of this diner. Please read down below for the cons:
(My burger's cheese had a hair in it, the fries were over salty, I saw the cook(a big grey haired guy with a dirty chef coat) handling cheese with his bare hand and then some other stuff, also the big guy chef seating people after 2 Oclock their closing time. Hope the waitresses got to leave go home on time. They have lives too!
Anyways, that's my honest review of here and what I...
