I have been two times. The first time I got the buffet and it was really good! I was excited to bring my husband and daughter there to try it! The second time I went I got there at 8:15 but they close at 9 so the waitress said they were going to be taking down the buffet so that was a bummer but it was okay, I understood. We ordered the pig skin app which was delicious and we ordered our entrées which were pretty good as well!! When the entrées came it was about 10 mins till 9. I only got a couple bites in before i had to stop eating to take my toddler to the bathroom but when I got back we were extremely rushed by the wait staff. They were constantly coming to ask if we were done or to take plates. They brought the check while we were still eating. So i stop eating to dig for money and they try taking my plate again. So I just put it in the to go box to leave. It was very intrusive and I didn't really appreciate it. I understand you close at 9 however we didn't come in right before close, we were already paying customers BEFORE closing so why rush our family out the door? So pretty much by the time my food hit the table and the time I walked out the door it was around a 15 min time span! We took half our food home and I was extremely disappointed. I'm not sure if I will go back. Maybe for the buffet but if so it will obviously not be ANYWHERE within...
Read moreVisited for the first time tonight. Cute place with lots of upsides. Service was great, never had an empty glass and the sweet tea was perfect. I had the combo platter with ribs and brisket. Ribs were nice and tender and I did really like their sauce which is what saved their brisket for me. Smoked Brisket needs to be cut thicker with more bark in my opinion…otherwise it might as well just be pastrami. Good flavor though, and as I said the sauce helped as well. Wife and mother shared the massive tenderloin which they said was great. Biggest knock I have unfortunately are the sides. To me, what sets a good bbq joint apart from its competitors are the sides and this place is just missing the mark here. Waffle fries were good, but the Mac’n cheese might be some of the worst I’ve ever had. It looked like radio active nutrition center Mac that was neon orange and tasted metallic. My mother who has eaten here several times has said that most of the other sides are pretty bland as well. I really want to love this place so I plan on returning in a couple months to see if I can bump...
Read moreMy family goes 3+ hours out of our way once a year or so to experience their $15 all you can eat fried chicken Wednesday meal. It's the best fried chicken within a 2 hour drive of St Louis, where we recently bought our first house. Palmyra reminds me of a slice of Americana that my generation, at least in New England, has lost for various reasons.
It makes me wistful that I never got to experience growing up in a beautiful walkable community with a high quality restaurant with polite/friendly/comely young waitresses. Palmyra is where a CNA/CDL couple lives better than a MD/JD couple making $500,000 on the coasts.
My wife and MIL were blown away by the friendly demeanor of the workers who took pride in their work (we were given a dollar to buy cute buttons for our infant's croc), the well maintained lawns, beautiful playgrounds, and the fact that there were no (my family and I speak in Spanish) minorites other than our table. I told them this is how "la pinche mejor país del mundo" used to be.
