Edit: I don’t appreciate the owner accusing me of faking messages. My name is NYASHA RILEY, the photos below are true and accurate, her text messages are her real messages, the compliments I gave her are just as accurate as my criticisms. I don’t play around about being threatened. I posted to make sure if something happened to me, it was documented. I understand she may be unable to tell people apart, but we met in person, she came to my house!! I’m not Suma Hodge.
Original post: My niece surprised me with a cake from Shiloh Bakery for my birthday, and at first, I was ecstatic. Finding vegan and gluten-free treats that taste good can be a challenge, so I was really looking forward to it. I even got to meet Rebeca when she dropped off the cake—she was kind and pleasant.
Unfortunately, the excitement ended once we actually cut into the cake at my party. Despite following the storage instructions carefully, the cake was extremely dry and practically inedible. I thought it might just be me until I noticed my guests had the same reaction—most took one polite bite and set their slices aside. Several told me directly that they didn’t want to eat it. In the end, I threw away most of the cake and went to Welcome Diner just to enjoy some dessert on my birthday.
The next day, my niece reached out to Rebecca to share what happened and request a partial refund or discount, given that the cake was unusable. Instead of handling the situation professionally, Rebecca became argumentative. She insisted the cake was fine because her own family enjoyed it and implied we were lying about our experience.
What really crossed the line, though, was when she responded by threatening me indirectly—telling my niece, “Don’t forget I have her address.” That kind of behavior is completely unacceptable and frightening. I even attached a screenshot for documentation (with partial information hidden for privacy).
Disappointment with a product is one thing, but responding to customer feedback with hostility and threats is beyond unprofessional. I cannot recommend this...
Read moreUpdate: Since posting my review, Rebecca has continued to harass me and even accused me of using fake names — which is untrue. Her comments also revealed that she could not tell me and my family members apart because we are Black, which is unacceptable and deeply offensive. I blurred out her personal information from her text messages, as that information does not need to be on the internet.
I ordered a vegan and gluten free carrot cake from Rebecca at Shiloh bakery for my aunt’s birthday. This experience started off pleasant — communication was good when I placed my order, and she even dropped the cake off at my aunt’s house, which was a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. The cake was extremely dry, crumbly, and did not taste like carrot cake at all. None of the guests could eat it, and the cake went completely to waste.
When I politely reached out to share feedback and ask for a partial refund, Rebecca became defensive, dismissive, and ultimately unprofessional. She told me she only made a $10 profit off of a $120 cake, minimized my concerns, refused any resolution, and escalated the conversation by harassing me via text and making rude and threatening remarks directed at both me and my aunt.
This was supposed to be a special moment for my aunt and instead it became stressful and disappointing. Between the poor product quality and the way I was treated afterward, this is not a business I would trust or...
Read moreI celebrated my dear friend who happens to be vegan. She was excited about trying this beautiful cake. I was blown away. Wait, not in the good way. It was so dry, flavorless, and not what you’d expect. I was confused because I’ve had vegan deserts before from my friend and couldn’t tell. This was falling apart in your mouth. In tiny crumbles. The consistency was so bad it didn’t even give you time to taste the lack of carrot in the carrot cake. Quite disappointed. I know how far vegan food has come being friends for ten year. This was nothing short of a disappointment.
UPDATE: I understand that this is a small business and by the other reviews that had great experiences. This was just mine. But then she started threatening me, my job and stating she knows where I live. “I will find you.” I was not trying to be mean but reviews are just that. People’s experiences. I didn’t deserve the threats. The cake was beautiful. I do appreciate the time and heart you put into it and your small business. But you have no right to attack or threaten someone for their opinion. Take feedback and do better. Period. Stars were higher for services...
