Shingobee on the Bay — Restaurant in Park Rapids

We have been here several times. This is the first time I’m reviewing but definitely not the first time we’ve been dissatisfied. On top of the hostess acting as if I were invisible and helping people in line behind me, we asked for outdoor seating and were told there was none. There were 5 large open tables outside at that time. We took an inside table. As soon as we sat down a server told the hostess that an outdoor table just opened up. Instead of seating us out there she told the next people in line they could sit out there. When my significant other said “excuse me” to the hostess several times she just kept walking and ignoring us. A different server came over to see what we needed and upon explaining the situation and checking into it he reported back to us that the hostess just overlooked a reservation.....Literally less than a minute after we asked. Hmmm. We’ve also needed to gas up our boat here several times. It is like a scavenger hunt to find someone to pump our gas (they don’t let you pump your own). Today the cook, white jacket and all, came out to pump our gas. We‘ve also tried to get ice cream several times from their convenience store. There’s nothing convenient about it. Never a worker in there. So another scavenger hunt for that. The food and ice cream is good and the place is cool in theory which is why we have returned several times hoping for better service. I know this us a long review but please read! I would love to be able to review the food but unfortunately we never made it that far. We stood at the door for 15 minutes waiting to be seated. I finally walked to the bar to ask if we should seat ourselves. The lone waiter told me that "grandma" would take care of us. A few minutes later, a little old lady came and showed us to our booth. Then proceeded to seat the line of people behind us. I'd like to add that we were the first in line, and the first to be seated. Once in our seats "grandma" gave us our menus. It took us all of about 5 minutes to decide what we wanted. We continued to wait for about another 15-20 minutes, just watching the only waiter run from one side of the resturand to the other. He was working is a** off. All the while, the manager, paced back and forth, the bar tender stood at the bar, and grandma proceeded to wipe down windows...at this point we were getting irritated. But the reason we walked out was that the waiter started waiting on tables in reverse order. The 4 people who were behind us in line were all waites on before us. I would leave this place no stars but Google won't allow it. Don't waste...

Terrible experience and won’t be returning. It was a staffing issue and not a food issue. Food was average. No one came to take our drink order for 15 mins. We didn’t put our food order in until about 30 mins of being there. Food came out about 45 mins later. We were not rounded on for more drinks or even water. No check in’s what so ever. OUr appetite never came. When we got the check and mentioned it, Kelsey (who was supposedly the bartender and also working table due to being short) said they were out of the appetizer and forgot to mention it. We then asked why we hadn’t been offered more drinks or checked on and she said it was due to staffing. Jessica (assuming that’s the manager) was also rude and instead of apologizing for the terrible service she started with excuses and said something in the kitchen was broken and they shouldn’t have even been open. That’s not our problem. Communication would have been greatly appreciated. The wait wasn’t the issue. It was lack of service and rude service when called out. They did comp our meal 50%. We would have gladly pay the whole bill. It’s the rudeness that’s not Ok. Hopefully management sees this and hires more staff for...
